It's now just three days until I fly to NC, and on Friday I will be meeting my new furbaby and bringing her home!!!

I'm so excited - I started packing last night - I'm hardly bringing anything, lol, but I've got a magazine and my CD-Walkman ready for the flights, gotta get my camera batteries all charged up, have confirmed all reservations, as Ryan says, I'm g2g!

I set up the new litterbox in my bedroom last night, and Ginger is so intrigued by this new development that she has had to get into it at least once every couple of hours.

Ferris is also intrigued as well, but seems to think that if he gets caught using it that he'll be in trouble or something: If he is in it and sees or hears me coming, he panics and jumps out of it and runs away!

I'm expecting to get a Penny-scented towel in the mail within the next day or so, so the kids will get a chance to smell her before she gets here.

The only wrench in the works is another dental issue - it looks like I'm going to need an emergency root canal before flying out - I have yet another tooth, this time one of the front top two, that is in pain and it is clear to me that it is not going to be able to wait.

So between today and Thursday morning (leaving my home at 9 a.m. on Thursday to get to the airport) I need to get as much done at my office as possible, squeeze in my annual physical with my PCP on Wednesday morning (hmmm...maybe I should call and reschedule that one - the root canal has to take priority,) and figure out a way to get in to see the dentist and the endodontist TOMORROW to get this evaluated and root canaled ASAP.

It ain't easy being me - but at least I have Penny to look forward to!

I can't believe that THIS is the big week! I forget whether you are doing a day trip or staying overnight, but my advice is take planty of Airborne or coldmd (I prefer airborne) so that if you get stuck around sick people, you will be able to fight colds, etc off. Plus, take a good book and alot of snacks - can you tell that I am used to getting stuck on flights that don't take off on time?
Oh, I am so excited for you and can't wait to see new photos of Penny and hear about how the trip went! Yay!!!

I would cancel the pcp appt and concentrate on getting that tooth taken care of. Are you sure you can fly so soon after dental work???

Good luck, and can't wait to see pics!

Thank you - I can't take Airborne or any other type of effervescent meds - I can't swallow the gritty, fizzing yuckiness. But I've packed my antibacterial wipes, and my vitamins.

It's just an overnight trip, I'll stay one night in NC, go to the cattery the next morning, spend about 3 hours there before heading back to the airport, and if all goes well and there are no delays, I'll be arriving home sometime around 10;30 p.m. on Friday night.
Then I'll have the long weekend plus Tuesday off from work, so it'll be a nice quiet 4 days at home with the furkids.

Because it looks like I'll be having a root canal right in front right before I go, there isn't going to be much in the way of snacks happening. I can get all I need to eat in the airports - I have two connecting flights: one on the way down and one on the way back, so it'll be a total of 4 airplanes. Right now I can't eat anything that needs to be bitten into; all foods needs to be cut into tiny pieces for me to eat so another front crown doesn't pop out on me again. My appointment for fixing THAT one is next month.

I swear to God, that I am losing teeth left, right and sideways. I'd better hit the lottery soon, because they are costing me between $500-$1,000 each to try to keep!!!

Thanks - I just rescheduled my PCP appointment until February. My dentist is closed on Mondays but I left a message this morning letting them know what's up, am taking painkillers to deal with the throbbing in my gums, and have all of Tuesday and Wednesday to get to the dentist, get evaluated then get sent over to the endodontist.

I don't have a choice about flying - reservations are non transferable, so I'm flying to NC on Thursday whether or not things in my mouth are taken care of.

A root canal is a blessing - I'm not scared of them, but being in pain from an abcess is HORRIBLE. I expect it to take a couple of hours in the chair, then all will be well. It'll be my 5th root canal.

I think I'm going to have to move into the dentists office to live, seeing as how I'm spending so much time there lately and they are getting every spare cent I have. I hope they don't mind cats...

Betsy, I hate to say this, but -- as I understand it, the fluctuations in air pressure during flight can make root canal troubles even more painful. And of course, you don't want to be too doped up while airborne, either. Maybe you can ask the dental surgeon if there's something you can do to make the flights a little more pleasant without knocking yourself out.

Milkshakes helped a lot when I had a root canal... but they might not let you carry one onto a plane these days. Maybe you could have one in the airport before you board.

I hope it all goes smoothly, and I'm so glad for you and your new baby!

Root canals do not require that medication be given after the procedure, as the pain is due to the abcess, not the root canal procedure. (Seriously, I'm a veteran of these things now!)

As soon as I can get into the endodontist within the next 48 hours, the tooth will be root canaled, and there will be no more pain, instantly.

They give novacaine for the root canal process, clean out the root, insert the replacement material, close it up, recement the crown, ta-da, all fixed, pain gone, no issues with air pressure.

If I were to ignore the pain, NOT go to the dentist tomorrow and fly on Thursday, then yes, I would absolutely have some pain to deal with. But again, I've been there done that. Not HAPPY that I have to deal with this this week of all weeks, but I have to do what I have to do.

It is funny to me that so many people freak out at the words: root canal. The root canal is the EASY and GOOD part. It's the pain from the abcessed infection that LEADS to the root canal that sucks. And that's what I'm dealing with today: pain from an infection in the root of a dead tooth.

My dentists are wonderful people that take good care of me, and they will do what they need to do to take care of this for me before I fly.

I definitely appreciate all the suggestions and support!

I just want this to be taken care of FAST so that I can fly and go get my beautiful new furgirl and bring her home without anything else to worry about.

If my dentist's office was open on Mondays, I'd be there right this second, but since they have Saturday hours, they are closed on Mondays. Just my luck, LOL... It's Murphy's law, you know.

You might also want to think about a crown for that front tooth. I needed a root canal on one of my top 2 front teeth too. After the root canal the tooth started to turn grey, and over time it got darker and darker. I eventually had a crown down because I was really embarrassed about the tooth.

Actually, I have temporary acrylic crowns on my top front six teeth. The infection was below the crown under what what left of the natural tooth material.

I say was. Emergency root canal has been accomplished. I am PUI at the moment, and will fly without hindrance.

God Bless modern dentistry.
If only we had had this technology - and professionals with compassion - 35 years ago, when my traumas where visits to a sadist that filled cavities without novacaine. :shudder:

So. Dental trauma of today is fading into yesterday, thank you ALL for your support, you totally rock, and tomorrow gets me one day closer to going to get my new girl!

Now the countdown is all about HER. My Pretty Penny.

I got my new Drinkwell fountain with 50 oz reservoir in the mail today, and I'm going to set it up tonight. Hopefully the Feliway I've got going will keep things mellow enough to get the furkids through the stress of these changes. I can always give them some of Ferris' flower essences in their wet food if they seem to get weirded out in any way.

So far they are just being their wonderful little selves.
They sat together in the open window today for close to a whole minute. Life is good, LOL...

I wonder what Saturday is going to be like, as Penny settles in. I'm really looking forward to Saturday - I'll have my camera attached to my hand for the day!

:woo-hoo:

I'm so excited!!!
