counting down until graduation!!
Anyone know if it is up and running? My DH and I are going to take the train down there next week. We've never been on a train, so we are planning to stay down there over night, and take the train back the next night. However, we had heard about a great aquarium, but one of my friends suggested that it might not be open due to the hurricane a couple of years ago. Anyone know if it is open? If not, we probably won't go all the way to N.O. and just catch the next train back home.

I know, I know. It sounds silly to just want to go on a train ride!!

Thats a good question - I went there not too long before Katrina - I loved the penquins. I feel so sad whenever I see anything to do with N.O. - I miss it so much.

i'm not sure!!! i do know a good bit of NO seems to be back up and running though- around the french quarters/etc. Colin and I went to NO the last time we went to Mobile,Al to see his family (it's only a few hours to get there from Mobile so we made a day out of it) it was soo neat! We didn't go to the aquarium. (i'm not sure if it's up and running but i'm sure you could check online?) definitely stop by Cafe du Monde and get some beignets and cafe o lait though!!!!! They're awesome
It's fun too- it's out in a somewhat open area (under a tent- there are pigeons everywhere and you have to wait for a seat- but the atmosphere is soo fun!!! I loved it- also, there's little open markets down there with vendors that sell neat things as well (i was able to find some little wooden bobble head turtles that i collect at one!
) Also- a lot of the little shops are back to normal as well! Neworleanians are sooo resiliant- i really admire how much they've done in such a short amount of time to try and rebuild. There is still without a doubt a ton of devestation all around- but for each bit of devistation you see- it seems like people are working to rebuild something. I bet ya'll will have fun on the train too!!!!! I went on a train ride a few years back to chicago from memphis. It was awesome!!!! Such a fun, different way to get around!

i looked up this link online- looks like the aquarium/zoo is open

I think we are just going to do the aquarium. We are taking the train down on Thursday, and just killing time until we come back on Friday. Thanks though!
