Lately my cat Sadie has been breathing fairly hard. I can see her sides moving in and out at a fairly fast pace. I've never noticed it before. She's gained a lot of weight in her three years of life, and she's naturally big, but I wonder if this heavy breathing is caused by her weight gain, or something else entirely? I've been debating taking her to the vet. She acts completely normal and it doesn't seem to be affecting her, but it worries me just the same.

She's been doing it for about a week, but because she's not acting any differently or like it's affecting her, I haven't thought much about it.

I would call the vet. The weight could be placing a strain on her heart and lungs. It sounds as though she's working harder to breathe. To me that calls for a vet visit.

Good luck to you and Sadie.

I would at least call the vet, they can then advise whether you should bring her in or not.
