I do not know if this is normal but my cat lost her first litter of kittens few weeks ago, the were premieture but i ended up getting a seven week old kitten on mothers day from my kids, at first mama kitty was jissing and swatting the kitten but right now she tried to pick it up by the back of its neck and runn with it,, mind you she grabed its hole head, is thisa normal should i let it happen or what? the kitten is crying when she did it?
plus mama kitty keeps mewing real loud like she is begging for the kitten

it might be her mothering instinks kicking in, was she a first time mum to the ones that sadly didnt make it?
she might be trying to play mummy role. i would deffently keep an eye on them both.

It probably is her mothering instincts. Sasha still has 4 of her 5 kittens, and she does take care of them.. but while she's out of the box, she will follow little Spike (12 weeks old) around and will grab him and clean him and try to convince him to nurse... I usually seperate them at that point. She's just a really good momma I guess, lol.

Mother cats are supposed to carry the kittens by the back of the neck; that's natural. She may have been trying to take it to a nest, wherever she considers to be a safe place.

But if she had its whole head in her mouth, that's something else... if that's the case you may have to supervise their interaction.
