We got the results of Abby's biopsies back today. She does have irritable bowel, but what has been causing all of the more severe problems is very interesting. Abby has whatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s called helicobacter, which is a gastric spiral bacterium that has been linked to peptic ulcer disease in humans. My mom has had ulcers so itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s likely that she passed it onto Abby. The vet said that this is the first confirmed case sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s had of it!
The good news is that itâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s treatable and possibly even curable. We have to give her a combination of antibiotics and pepcid, and that should knock the bacteria out of her system.
Had we not gone through with the surgery, we probably never wouldâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve figured it out and she wouldâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve been sick for a lot longer than she already has been. I just knew in my gut that there was something else going on that we werenâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t catching onto. I'm so glad that I decided to go ahead with the surgery! My catâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s going to be ok!!
