In my experience, a resident female will generally accept a neutered male a lot quicker then another female.

I've had several females (spayed and not) that wanted to rule the roost and really did not like another female joining the group - they accepted almost every male tho.

The only way I had two females get along was a female that was kept from the mother (with the rexes).

With our barn cats, the top female (spayed) ran off or killed by chasing them to the road - every female in the group. She tolerated the males staying (neutered). That is why Ling was never allowed outside after the brothers/sisters left - because LoCal would have killed her.

Watching the robins sing!
I have heard that the opposite sex is easier to introduce to an adult cat. But, I have also heard that if the kitten is spayed/neutered the sex doesn't matter. I also would wonder if it matters to a mother cat who will be letting her own kitten grow up with her. Maybe one of the breeders will know the answer to this!
