I took two kittens from disgusting conditions the other day. The one kitten is very skinny but doing well. The other kitten was ok but today I noticed that she is not as playful...she peed outside the litter box. I checked her temp and she has a rectal temp of 104.4....I think that is a fever..is it? I amguessingurinary tract infection. Her eyes and nose are clear..no sneezing..no coughing. I am trying to contact my vet now. In the meantime what can I do for the fever? any ideas..I keep offering cool water and putting it on her mouth.....hope he returns my call soon

Good idea to call the vet.

Fluids are good for the fever. An eyedropper or syringe would help with that. I believe normal is 101.5-102.5, give or take half a degree.

UTI's aren't usually accompanied by a fever. How old is the kitten?

I don't blame you for being upset. You're doing a great thing for these kittens.

Peeing outside of the box is the first sign of a UTI...but it's not too common at only 8 weeks of age. Fatigue and fever with potty accidents at that age could be a lot of things, like you said. I hope it's nothing serious.

Is she eating ok?

i took kitty's to vet and he put both on antibiotics..the kity with the fever is otherwise healthy, but the other one is malnourished and dehydrated.. I have to offer food and water every hour..she can eat as much as she can consume. The other good news is I think I got the other kittens in there litter adopted. The conditions were so bad there. I wish i could have taken them all but I already have 4 others cats and 2 dogs...full house!!!!! But I love them all!!!

I'm glad you were able to get them to the vet. I hope they recover well from what they've been through. Good job getting the others adopted too.
I'll think positive thoughts for you and the kittens.
