I need a little help here. I need to upgrade my memory and was told that if I had dual channel that I would have to upgrade both slots at the same time. I went to a site and entered the model of my computer and it came up with this (the specs are about halfway down the page, along with some Q&A for the system, which is an HP Pavillion 750n)
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...=Pavilion+750n

It said that this system doesn't have dual channel memory which answers one question but the other question that I had was this: Are memory cards backwards compatible? The site says that each slot can hold a DDR PC2700, DDR3200 with a max of 1GB for each slot. Below are the specs for my PC from the HP web site:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...cname=bph07045
The HP site says that I my speed is PC2100/1600. Is it true that a PC3200 or PC2700 speed DDR work on my system?

Thanks.

Memory are backwards compatible. Sometime it is cheaper to purchase newer memory than the one you have on your computer that is because they don't make them anymore and harder to find. I am assuming you are running 512mb (256mb x 2 ?) and wants to upgrade to 1gb. If this is the case, you can still keep one stick in there and stick another 1gb then you get 1256mb of ram. However, there are two drawbacks. First, it will only run at the speed that your motherboard is designed to run, PC2700. Second, you might run into compatibility issues when you mix them. You could also try newegg.com for cheaper memory as well. I hope this helps.

Thank you.

I bought a 1GB PC2700 card. You were right in your assumption about my memory cards (256x2=512). I believe that I'm going to run the 1GB card by itself to avoid any possible compatibilty issues. Down the road I'll get another 1GB card to max out the ram.

Just make sure when you add the other module later that all the specs are compatible. It's best to get another module from the same manufacturer. If not make sure all the specs are the same to avoid issues.

Thanks. I'll be sure to get the exact same model just to avoid any issues. I installed it after I made my last post in here and can notice quite a big difference in performance.
