I gotta tell you - I love having purchased a product from a company that cares.

When Gary and I first moved out of the RV and into a house, we purchased a Litter Robot ( http://www.litter-robot.com/Default.aspx?ac=1 ). They were expensive compared to other automatic litter boxes, but there were no additional costs once you own one, and the design seemed so much better than the litter maids which people constantly complained about.

The cats started using the first one, and it worked so well that we purchased a second one.

They were easy to use, easy to clean, and everything was great. Well, sometime late last year, when the fist box was a little over two years old I think, I went to clean the tray, and all the litter had dumped down into it. I couldn't figure it out. Somehow the gear track that the ball rolls on had gotten a hole on one of the little gear track thingies, and that caused all the litter to dump down over several rotations into the drawer that collects the clumped litter.

We figured out what the problem was, and it easily taped up with that aluminum tape. We had to replace it every few weeks. I totally forgot to write Litter Robot to tell them about the problem.

Then the second one broke - with the same problem, but somehow the magnet that's inside that tells it where to stop turning had also fallen off.
Gary tried to fix it, but we couldn't seem to get the magnet in the right place. We put the box out in the garage, and I meant to write to them to ask how to fix it.

Well, with everything going on in our lives with his health, the job, and finally the move, I totally forgot. And we moved the broken box right along with us.

Yesterday, I received an e-mail from them offering existing owners a 15% discount on upgrades. The new boxes have an improved gear box track and a deeper drawer.

First of all, I felt terrible for never having reported the problem to them. Second of all, I was upset at having received a coupon to upgrade - it's still a lot of money (which we don't have right now).

But it spurred me on to write to them to tell them about the problems.

And I got SUCH a lovely note back from them! They couldn't have been nicer.

AND... we're getting a free replacement!

I feel bad I didn't write to them when I should have. But I absolutely love dealing with companies that want to do the right thing!

I just thought I'd share this with you all, because if you can afford a Litter Robot, especially if you live in a small space, when they work they're great - AND it seems like they've addressed the problem we had with it. AND they're good people to work with when things go wrong.

So thought I'd share both the information and the good news!

I'm jealous! I have two older litter robots. The liner is giving me problems but the warranty has long been over. When I wrote to ask about replacing the globes they offered me a substantial discount towards the new litter robot 2 since the new globes aren't compatible with my base. Hopefully I will be able to afford the upgrade next month, but they said that the offer was good until I was ready to redeem it. This is why they keep my business and get my referrals. They are constantly improving the product and they treat us customers right!
