We sold our 600g aquarium on Thursday night, and the buyers picked it up this morning! This tank weighed over 1400 lbs with water. So, when they moved it, I was surprised the carpet didnt look as bad as we had though. You can see where the braces sat, so of course the carpet padding is pretty much smashed down. We vacuumed it, and I used my little bissle cleaner, which helped out a little. I did it only in a small area. Would renting a steam cleaner bring it back up or do you use a rake to fluff the carpet back up?

I've never had something THAT heavey on a carpet I don't think. But I know I have had something that was probably at least several hundred pounds at one point.

I normally just vacum a few times, leave it be, brush it up a little bit and before I know it, it fits in with the rest of the carpet.

But I don't know if that will work for a 1400 fish tank! lol

I am thinking that over time it will pop back up. We had my 125 in our computer room & it weighed maybe 500 lbs with water? And, it didnt take that long to pop back up. I'll try vacuuming it a few times this week on the low setting for carpet.

Wow! Thats a HEAVY tank. Hmmm...the only thing I can suggest is vaccuming like everyone else has said. What does raking the carpet mean?
Do you actually use a rake and comb the carpet?

Spooky, people can use special tools called carpet rakes that will make the carpet fibers stand up. Carpet rakes were used alot in the 1960's when shag carpeting was popular. Here is a picture:

I just bought Linda Cobb's book "The Queen of Clean-The Queen Cleans Everything" and she had a suggestion in there for carpet indentations. Here is what it says in the book:
Lay ice cubes in the indentations caused by furniture. Be sure to cover all of the indented area. Leave overnight and then fluff the nap with the tines of a fork the next day.

Hope that helps you out! BTW...This book is AWESOME! I'm kind of a clean freak and there are so many remedies on how to clean things. It's got just about anything you want to know in it! I picked it up at Wal-Mart for $16.00 and it is well worth the money! If anyone needs help getting out a stain or anything, just let me know and I'll look it up in the book. Just thought I'd share my 2 cents with you all...

I used my bissel cleaner again, but charged it longer, and so far, so good! The parts that I have cleaned, you can't tell something was even there! Once I finish the whole area, I will vacuum it on the low carpet setting. One of these days, I really need to rent the steamers from the grocery store, and clean the whole house.

Barb, Did you buy the book today? I just looked up how to get red wine stains out of clothes and carpet (just in case if you didn't buy the book or if you happen to get another spill on your clothes). It said the best emergency cleaner for just about anything is club soda. It said that it will even work on old stains too. Just flush the area with the soda and blot it up. Then flush with water and it should be gone...I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure I'll end up trying it sooner than later. Another thing the book suggests for red wine stains is white wine. It also works good for red pop, cranberry juice, Kool-Aid and fruit punches. It said to pour the white wine on the red stain and it will remove the it, but it needs to be done as soon as possible. Just thought I'd share that with ya...

Tigger, did you try the ice thing? Just curious if it worked or not. Good luck and let me know if it worked.

Shell!! I will have to remember that!! We always get these big indentations from the x-mas tree stand every year and I spend alot of time trying to "fluff" the carpet back up so you can't tell. I will have to try the ice cube thing!!!!

Tigger, just now read this thread...glad to hear you finally sold the aquarium!
I hope your carpet is looking back to normal now!
