he came running into the room fell to the floor and just starting fitting
i panicked i didnt know what to do i stayed with him and stroked him untill it was over. his about 14-15 years old and never once has this happend , his one of my indoor only cats as he hates the outside. i phoned the vet straight after i put him in a quiet room with food , water and litter , he seems a bit of ballance and a bit dehydrated but ok. the vet said to keep him quiet and if it was to happen again tonight then im to take him to the EM vet as my normal vets are closed, and the normal EM vet is shut the reason i dont know. so this one is about 1 1/2 hours from me. that is not a problem , the vet said to not bring him in yet , if he has another fit or gets worse then to bring him in , otherwise take him to the normal vet in the morning. im going out of my mind with worry to what it could be his my baby and i only lost his son last year due to kidney cancer he was 9. please send some vibes that he will be ok and that its nothing serious.

Oh no, you poor thing. My cat Joey (9 month old Bengal) has fits too. It is so scary. The vet thinks his is caused by epilepsy which is very rare in cats. Their first thoughts were poisoning. Is there anything your cat could have eaten e.g. plants, drinking ut of the loo if theres cleaning products, or anything else like that.

I would ring the vet or take him tomorrow. It can also be something to do with Liver problems apparently, but i don't know much about it as was not the case with mine.

Joey is fine and going strong so its not necessarily as bad as you think but definitely calls for a vet check.

Take care xx

well its only 7.20 pm here now they dont open untill 9 am. they did ask about posioning , but 1 he dosnt go out , 2 i have young children so there is NEVER cleaning products around , and 3 i dont have house plants as the cats do eat them and its normaly so warm in here that they die anyway. so havnt had a house plant for the last 2 years. his asleep at the moment , but deffently not him self. they said it can take a lot out of them, and just let him sleep, but i can not get this horrible feeling out of my mind that he wont be ok.

Just keep an eye on him. Is he eating & drinking? Used the litterbox? Spend some time with him & try to keep him calm if it happens again. It could be a million things causing this.
We're here for you no matter what!!

thank you , he hasnt eaten nothing since or drank or used his litter tray, he just dosnt seem intrested , but the vet said this can be normal , if he hasnt drank anything by 9 pm tonight then i can try giving him some fluids by sryinge and if he wont have that then im to bring him in. i have been in with him since just sitting there quietly stroking him , thats the worse thing , when you normally stroke him he never lays down he always has to move and be stroked never stays in one place (he gets over excited) but now he just lays there. his 3rd eyelid is showing but not sure if thats because his tired.

Poor little thing. Hope it was just a fluke thing and that he's okay. I hope you get through the night without incidence. I'd be a nervous wreck too!

Calming vibes going out to you

Poor baby it does sound like he had a seizure. That can really physically drain you and make you feel a little "off" after you have had one. If that is what he has had then he will slowly like within 24 hours start to feel normal again.

My sister had 1 when she was a teenager and they could never figure out why. She just had that 1 and her Dr decided that it was probably stress related and she never had another one.

Good Luck to both you and your baby boy

It sounds like he may be coming out of it now, but the seizure can really leave the kitty in a funk for a while. There are a variety of post-seizure symptoms that they can go through. During the seizure they may foam at the mouth, thrash about, or simply stare off into space. The post-seizure symptoms include, lethargy, nausea, disorientation, drooling/vomiting, temporary blindness, and temporary loss of bladder control.

When the body seizes, its like every muscle and nerve contracting at once. It takes a physical toll on the body, and is just exhausing to go through. The cat is literally worn out for a while after. The seizure is also like a "reset" on all brain activity. This is why there may be temporary blindness, balance loss, and even some mild personality changes, until everything settles back down.

I don't know if what your babe experienced was a seizure, or if so, what the cause was, but you are doing the right thing now. Try to keep stimulation at a minimum, so keep the lights low and the sounds quiet.

Let us know what the vet tells you. We're all thinking of you!

he didnt seem to see that well after , he didnt have full ballance ,lethargic and did try to be sick after but nothing came up.
when it happend it was like a spasam that went through his body every inch twitched and jerked, iv never seen any of my animals go through this , i really thought i had lost him at that very moment. im just glad that he seems to be perking up now, and i hope the vet dont think its nothing serious tomorrow.
just to let you all know , he was/is deffently going to the vet tomorrow no matter what happens , just in case i confused you about weather or not i should go , there is no question weather or not i should go , i AM going.

I think the not being able to see, acting strange for a few hours after a fit is normal. My cat does that. He acts very oddly like he has a bad taste in his mouth and can't see properly, and meows a lot. It is something to do with the fit.

Let us know what the vet says

xx

sorry my change over with talk talk was today , so havnt been able to get online untill now.
well they did blood tests and we had to wait there untill the results came through , they tested for epelicy , diabites, liver and kidney, sorry about the spelling!
everything came back fine apart from the kidney and liver test, by all accounts the test they do for these 2 are the same test , if the test comes back high then it means a kidney problem if it comes back low then its a liver problem. it came back quite low so there saying his got an infection in the liver , they said it could be a form of hepatitis (spelling?) they have put him on a 4 day course of steriods to be taken 1 twice daily with food. his also on antibiotics 1 a day for 5 days then 1 every other day for 10 days. he has to go back in 2-3 weeks for more tests on his liver to make sure it isnt nothing more serious then an infection. they said it could have been the cause of the fit, im to keep constant eye on him , i have to note down exclaty how the fit starts (if he does have another) i have to give as much detail as possible time etc.. if he has another one before he is due to go back then im to bring him in before. apart from that he is in great health , he has a bit of a bad tooth(fang) but they said it isnt causing him discomfort so they are not going to take it out unless nesscery.
