I get that from my co-workers and my family all of the time..They are like "you have 8 animals?"..And I say yes and I would have more if the city would let me...
They just call me the animal lady....I don't pay any attention to them....

You know, I've never been sensitive to the smell of cat pee (Well, until I got a male unneutered kitten.
). I used to live in an apartment that had had cats in it before I lived there. Visitors would remark on the cat pee smell - and I NEVER smelled it!

But that doggie smell...yeah...no mistaking doggie breathe.

My parent's used to be the one's to question me......Now.. They just accept it.
I will NEVER NOT have a cat.
Right now, I have 5 cats and I used to get the response of "Cats are stupid" But only from people who didn't know me.... People who do know me, don't even remark anymore.
I'll argue with them until I'm blue in the face.

I have an aunt that does nothing but complain about my cats when she is visiting. It doesn't bother me because when she's at my sisters she does the same about her dogs. I did however tack this little note up to my fridge and anyone who enters my house is more then welcome to read it.

To All Non-Pet Owners Who Visit & Like to Complain
About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
(That's why they call it "fur"nature.)
3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who
is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.

Most of my friends are cat people though so it isn't really a problem. And those who are not know that I do look at my cats as if they were children and respect that.
My boss even asked me yesterday If my cats got me something for mother's day? Not as a joke, but, because he know that my sister picks up cards and gifts for me on all the holidays from my cats ...I do the same for her from her dogs.
Our pets are our family.

I cried and cried and cried when my kitties were fighting. My husband thought I was crazy until he realized how serious I was about it. They are my only children, and they were fighting, and I didn't know why. I LOVE my cats!! They love you unconditionally as long as you take care of them.

What I got from my kitties for Mom's day is an attitude. They do *not* like the newest addition.

I have this brother. He's six years younger, and he's brilliant and gifted and funny and wonderful in almost every way, and I love him beyond words.

But.

He seems to have two sides to his nature regarding cats. He appreciates their beauty, he likes to hold and pet kittens, and he would never dream of doing them harm... but he sees them as unworthy, somehow, because they're "just animals."

My hope of ever being a mom is long past, so when I adopted Clyde, I named him after my father's middle name, as I might have named a child. And when Pearl came along, I gave her the feminine version of my brother's name as her second name -- Noelle.

So my brother came over and I introduced him to my new kitten and told him proudly that I had named her after him... and he rolled his eyes and scoffed, "It's a cat."

That broke my heart. He just doesn't get it... but neither do a lot of people, I guess. And he's a wonderful person -- it's just this blind spot he's got.

We got Cleo not long after i started work at Animal Aid, so when id stay at Tristans house, the urine smell was 100 times stronger. Still is now even though i dont work there any more. It isnt the doggie breath im talking about, it's the fur!!!

Watching the robins sing!
Hmmm....When I was younger, ALL of my friends were cat people. For some reason, now, my closest friends (still, after 20 -35 years) are the few Non-cat people that were in my life when I was younger. Go figure. They do put up with the way I love my cats, even if they don't understand the amount of money that I spend on them, the way I talk to them, and how I worry about them and won't leave them alone for more than one night!
I have never let a man stay in my life who wasn't a real cat lover...gee, and I am single....I'd rather come home to my cats than a moody man who doesn't love them as much as I do!

I think most of my friends and family are cat lovers, at least my closest. the few that aren't...are tolerant at the least and get a kick out of my love for my cats. thought there are the 2 that always tell me I should get rid of them when I have to move cuz it's a little harder to find apts with them! NEVER!

in a pile of open toed shoes!
I don't usually get too much slack... My parents have said "you got another cat?" But not cause they think that cats are bad, cause my house is so small.
Then when we put in 2 giant cat trees in the living room, my step mom said "I can't believe you put them in your living room.... you have such a beautiful living room?!"
I said "if I had a den I'd put them there...but until then, I like watching them run & play on them"

Sometimes a person at work will say "ugh, you have a cat" usually a man. My response, "yup, I have 3 and I love them, WAY more than I do most people"

Now keep in mind, I don't discount all people that "do not like cats" my DH hated cats....
But I didn't own an animal at that time, so it wasn't a big deal to be without one.... And now, he is hoplessly in love with our babies... I think that my husband has never felt that kind of complete and unconditional love like you get from an animal.... he never had one growing up. He is addicted to that love.... he craves it, he misses them when he's away.... And he has even said to me "I love coming home to them...they are always SO HAPPY to see ME"

Daves parents are non cat people. However his mom tolerates them and likes to snuggle them when she comes over. She just doesnt understand how Dave and I can have more than one cat. Now we have 4. She doesnt know about the 2 new ones tho...We will wait for her to come over and notice them..LOL...I always let people know who come over to our house. If your allergic dont bother cuz Im not hiding my animals for anyone, if you dont like them, ignore them and they will eventually ignore you. Noone messes with my babies cuz I get really mean when someone does. A guy that Dave works with came over for poker night and he dropped Herc off the table and I was flipping out. Thats his table that he sleeps on and he is allowed up there. If knocks the chips over big deal pick them back up. Now everyone who comes over knows that they are my babies I love them and they better not mess with them.

No non-cat people for me. It's kind of the same as my house is never spotless... and there's always going to be cats. It's a fact of my life, and thereby a fact of anyone who knows/lives with/visits me.

Most of my friends are crazy cat people (or married to crazy cat people), so my friends "get it" when I talk about my cats the way most people talk about their children. It's my co-workers who don't understand and who make me feel like a crazy person when I talk about my cats. For the most part, now, I just don't talk about my cats when I'm with people who don't understand, unless it's in the most generic terms like "I had to take Spike to the vet" or "yes, I have two cats." My co-workers don't get it that I choose to stay home from work if we're having contractors into the apartment so that I can make sure my cats are safe, or that my cats are able to keep me up all night and I don't feel compelled to lock them up for it.

I guess, in the same way that my co-workers don't understand my being a crazy cat lady, I don't understand how they aren't cat-lovers. It's like we don't even speak the same language.
