Anyone good at predicting a kitten's "future personality"? :)

Probaby not. Cats have surprisingly tough skin (not to mention that protective layer of fur) so unless you are really WHACKING him with that thing, I doubt he was hurt. My cat (not a Bengal, but a Siamese mix) also goes balls-out when playing or chasing stuff, and in the course of it occasionally runs into walls, loses his footing, etc etc. (It's terribly cute when he's going too fast to turn and his feet slip around on our hardwood floors like a vehicle without anti-lock on a slippery road.
)

I doubt your kitty (who's an absolute cutie!
) was taking revenge. All that stuff (the squirming play-scratching and biting) sounds like normal kitten behaviour to me. Btw, my cat, who can be 10 pounds of pure lap fungus when he's feeling cuddly, HATES being picked up and held for more than 4 seconds. Some cats just don't like it. Let him come to you instead of trying to force the issue.

And, you know, you DO have a Bengal - if Bengals were lapcats, they would've been called Persians.

Have fun!

I posted these in the breeder's group as well.

i love tina's eyes. she will be jealous to start, but it takes a while, and since you work, soon they will be cleaning eachother in no time.

I hope you're right!!! I haven't started leaving them alone together yet (simply because Rowdy has an obsession with trying to eat the POISONOUS lily). I'd get rid of the lily, but it was given to me at my Granny's funeral and it has sentimental value. I live in SC so if I move it outdoors I fear that it will have sudden death! Oh, what to do....

Dear Leslie301, five years later, how did Rowdy turn out as an adult? I'm about to choose a kitten myself and would love to know how things worked out for you and your beautiful cat. (I hope you kept him away from the lily - they're highly toxic to cats.)

Thanks, Oriental Slave. I thought it might be a long shot, but worth a try. It was such a lovely lively story, but with its ending hanging in the air...plus, I am about to look for a kitten myself (poss short-haired ginger female to replace an adored, recently deceased of that ilk), so I guess I'm a bit obsessive at the mo! Thanks again anyway.

If you want some serious help choosing a certain breed of kitten, I can move your post to a new thread and give it a title like, What breed kitten should I choose.  Let me know if you want to do that.

Purebred kittens are more predictable in terms of personality. Moggies--it's a toss-up; who knows? They tend to be less extreme than purebreds, but that's about it.

On the other hand, have you considered adopting an adult (purebred or not)? An adult cat will already have a stable personality. Sometimes you can adopt "retired" cats from breeders, rather than kittens--cats who for one reason or another are no longer being bred. They are grown cats, and of course the owner will know their personality. On the other hand, if you want a moggie, you could try a no-kill shelter. There, the adults will have been resident for a while and had their personalities noted by shelter workers and volunteers.
