After much thought I decided to give my sweet girl to a new family today. With the move coming up I'd done a lot of research in order to bring Meish to South Korea with me. On top of all the vaccines she would be required to recieve she would need to endure a lengthly drive to the airport and then a day flight overseas to Korea and would then be required to do a ten to thirty day quarentine at a local facility. As much as it pains me to have to give me sweet girl away I feel that this might be easier for her than the travel. It just broke my heart to see my friend drive away with her today.

I just hope that everything goes well in her new home. I would hate to find out that things weren't working out... but if that is the situation I would take the cat to Korea and not think twice about it then. I'm just feeling really sad today. My husband (who is already in Korea) said that he would be more than happy to adopt me another cat. But I fear that we would run into the same situation when we return to the states in 2 years. My only hope is that we'd get a small kitten and have it used to traveling in a car and in a carrier. Time will tell. And it may be best to wait for another animal until the baby comes (Oh yea... did I tell anyone that I'm pregnant??? Due late November... Turkey baby.
)

Well... so ends my story.

I hope that others are having a splendid mothers day!!

BETH!!!!! Congrats on the baby.

Sorry you had to find Meishka a new home but those long quarantines I've heard about can't be good. It sounds like you thought long and hard.

It took me a long time to come to the decision. Now I just pray it works out! I would be heartbroke all over again if I find out it isn't going well. Meish was my first sweetie.
The house already seems so empty.

Its very, very hard leaving pets when you have to move away. My family had to leave our dog in Hong Kong when we moved to the UK, I was only 5 but remember his like it was yesterday
I still have a photo of me draped around his neck

You've done the right thing of course, you have obviously put a lot of thought into the matter and I am sure you have found a good home

ooo and Congrats on your special news too

Over the river and through the woods...
Oh hon, I know it's hard. I lived in Guam for 4 years and had to find home for 5 cats before I moved back to the states. But, believe me, it is probably the best thing for her. If she wasn't used to traveling the plane ride and quarantine would have stressed her out so much...I'm sure she will miss you, but she'll settle into her new house just fine.

I'm guessing your husband is military? If so, in Guam there was a network of families on base that would take pets from families that were leaving and couldn't take their pets with them. At least that way they knew their loved ones were going to a good home. It may be something to check in to.

And, congrats on the baby! Sounds like your life is going to get very busy!

Thank you all for the kind wishes and kind words

I'm very anxious to talk to my friend tomorrow to see how Meish's first night went in the new home. I'm awful lonely without her. I mean... I love my puppy but she isn't the cat.

I just pray that things go okay in the new home and they fall in love with her (and hubby can control his allergies).....

The baby will be born in Korea but it will be born in an american hospital on the post so she'll be an american citizen.
If we went to a civilian hospital she'd be a korean citizen... and its a real headache to get the american certificates and everything....

Yikes - sounds confusing!

No matter how confusing it gets, your baby will bring you much joy - congrats!
