Is Buckthorn illegal to grow in your Yard.

I curerently... GASP, have a Neighbor across my alley who grows buckthorn bushes in her yard.

The bushes are Massive and are reproducting wildly.

I currentlty live in northern MN, in St.paul. Is it illegal to have this weed in your yard, I know it is on the invastive DNR plants list.

If it is illegal could someone post me a website about buckthorn so I could give it to her.

It doesn't seem illegal to have them on your property, so consider that the person just doesn't know and try to explain why they're bad. If your neighborhood has a homeowner's association that might be your next move if they don't care.

I have sprayed roundup in her yard by the trashcans across from our yard. on some buckthorn growing cloase to my native gurage garden.. I want to kill the evil bushes but its her yard and I respect this.

I have been working on some client's property that has massive amounts.
Since it's an exotic plant and can overtake native areas its best removed. However its best removed in fall unless the plants are small and can be easily dug out. Otherwise use full strength brush killer type Roundup and cut plant and apply with paintbrush in the fall for best results. One of my clients-well I'm going to be battling it for awhile. Many nurseries are still selling the columar buckthorn. "Fine line" rhamus buckthron (bred here in NE Wisconsin) is another species and should be ok.
