Of course you're not being silly! I would so be there to watch as well! Make sure to post in this thread when she does go, LOL. I'd probably have a cot out in the barn.

Otherwise, a vet will come the morning after and check out mother and baby.
Jenny you are not being silly, I would be freaking out if I were you...All I do with my horse is visit her and feed her carrots I don't have a clue
I hope it won't be much longer.

Jenny have you noticed any waxing up on the teets at all, it actually looks like a waxie substance in the ends of the teets. I found with mine they would stand and look with there head up and stare a bit like they were thinking, maybe to do with the labor.
I saw all of the ones my first DH and I had give birth we had about 10 foals and we never got tired of seeing them born, I would call the whole family and tell them come over if you are wanting to see it born, we always had people who wanted to watch. Good Luck I hope you get to see it born

I was so sure it was going to be last night, but it wasn't. She has had waxy teats for a few days, and yesterday she had milk that I was able to extrude. Her temperature was erratic too, and that is a sign. And she was nesting all day - digging in her bedding, making circles of straw and hay. I was up with her at 12.0, 2.0, and 4.0, and finally turned her out into the field at 6.30! So we have to wait another night. I can't really make a bed in the barn unless I am actually in her box - and I think that might disturb her too much. The stable is only an old cow byre, stone built and roofed, but tacked onto the end of a ruined cottage, so there is nowhere to sleep. It only has three walls and a large grilled gate. I can just see her from my bedroom window, but only if she is at the front against the grill. So I have to keep getting up to visit her. The cats think I am nuts - I normally NEVER get up in the middle of the night! Last night Persil and Ellie really complained when I moved them.

that this goes quickly and smoothly for you, Jenny. Sounds like you know what to expect, now if it will just happen!

Nothing yet! I am so tired - I went back to bed this morning and slept till noon. I can see the foal moving and kicking inside her, and she bites at it. She is probably even more fed-up with this than I am. And I wish the weather were better - it has been raining all night for the last three nights. But that is nature for you: never doing what you want it to do.

No, nothing overnight. But it was stressful because I found at midnight that Tartine had slipped through the fence again (she seems not to care about electric fences unless they are on maximum), out of her yard and onto the main field, and was frantically pacing up and down outside Maisie's stall. I couldn't catch her, and had to leave her in the field. This morning she was lying in front of the grill, looking exhausted. So I panicked, wondering if she has been eating too much grass - she was on it almost 24 hours. Now I have her in the stall and Maisie grazing! She seems OK, normal temp and she is eating a little hay I gave her. But I am monitoring her now as well as Maisie.
