Good Luck!

We didn`t study pregnancy when I was at college, that was 3rd year and I only did 2 years but I beleive they wait till the dead of night when they are all alone. She sounds like she is an experienced mum.
Can`t wait for pictures!

Oh...I wanna be there! I would love to see a foal born! I'm sure everything will be fine but it sounds like all your bases are covered. Have you thought about putting monitors in the barn? Like baby monitors? I don't know how far away the barn is or if the signal could reach but that may be an idea.

My MIL's goat just had triplets last night, and she pushed them out in 1/2 hour! DH went up to check on her, came down for a cup of coffee and went up again and they were there. They are amazing...I can understand how excited you are! Can't wait for the pics!!

Horses do normally give birth at night - evolution arranged it like that so that the foal could keep up with the herd at daybreak when it moved to graze, and so be safer from predators. It does make it difficult, though, for people who want to be there. I also heard from someone that many foalings take place at full moon, but as that is not for a while yet (June 1st, I think?), that may not be a factor in this case. And I don't even know if that is true.

I thought the baby alarm was a good idea, and I hope you have got the camera and lights set up

Her udder is very waxy today. Another sign that we are close, though she is not secreting milk yet.

Please let us know how she is doing.

Her milk is in! Not thick yet, still thin and watery, but it is there. Last night she was very uncomfortable, shaking her head and turning round to look at her flanks, and pacing around all the time. I put her in her box at 10 PM then I was up at 2 AM and 6 AM to check on her, but nothing happened. However, I really do think that it will be very soon now. I hope so, I can't stay up too many nights like that!

Jenny, you are going to wear yourself out, you might fall asleep in the stall and wake up and a foal is looking at you
When our horse had her foal...not this time but the time before, there was another mare in foal across from her and they were tending to her because her foal was born stillborn
and when they turned around my horse had her foal just like that...so I hope it's easy like that for you!

Try to sneak in some catnaps or you are going to be really tired. Do you have a vet on call to assist??

I know the way I feel is silly - so many of you have been through this without any problems. But it is my first time. The equine clinic told me that I can call them 24 hours a day and they will send someone out if there is a problem. They don't normally attend births unless there is a good reason to. Otherwise, a vet will come the morning after and check out mother and baby.

Well, never having been through it, I don't think the way you're feeling is the least bit silly! I also doubt very much that anyone here who has been through it thinks you're feeling silly! It shows you care so much, and that's part of what we love about you!

Ditto what Heidi said - sending loads of healthy baby vibes, a safe birth, and get lots of catnaps so you can stay awake for the birth vibes!

No way are you silly!! Believe me....it's not just the first time birth that's exciting! As long as you can see two hoofs at the beginning, you shouldn't have any worries! Just relax as much as you can,and enjoy the miracle!! I can't wait to hear how it goes!!
