This morning our 6 month old kitten came in from out side acting strange. She's sticking her rear end up in the air in an odd way, almost like she's injured. She's whining in a way we've never heard her. Her genitals/rectal area is swollen with a clear liquid. She has shown no signs of being in heat that we know of. Would this be heat or do you think she has already mated?

Quite likely both - she is in heat and she has mated. I would get her to a vet quickly and get her spayed at once.

Yes, PLEASE get her into a vet and spayed ASAP! 6 months old is just too young for a kitten to have kittens!

Poor little thing. I just don't understand why some vets won't neuter them earlier to avoid this sort of thing. I'm so glad you are going to get her to a vet. Like the above poster said, 6 months old is way, way too young to be having kittens.

We meant to have her spayed at 4 months. Money got tight and we put it off. I called and have an appointment for Monday morning. If I wouldn't have come to this board, I would have probably just watched her until it would have been too late, so thanks again!

Good job getting her in to be spayed
When you have time, please post photos of her if you can. We love photos here

I'm so glad you got the appointment. Bless you.

I second the other posters suggestion - pictures please.
We love to see everyone's special kitties.

I can't figure out how to post pics in this forum but I just posted a picture on my blog. Just follow the link and scroll down. There's a picture of her sleeping in a bathroom sink! We found her with a litter of kittens behind some bushes. They were all scared to come to my daughter except this one. She was pretty wild at first but she calmed right down within a couple of weeks. Her and our dog are best friends!

Wonderful. I can see it. She looks absolutely wonderful. Glad you have given her a nice home and are getting her spayed. She will be set for life.
