Hello, I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I have a neutered male cat. Up until this spring he had no desire to go outside. He would go to the basement now and then and that seemed to satisfy him. I am sure there were mice down there to chase. Anyway, all of a sudden I can't keep him in the house. I do not want him outside after dark--I am afraid someone will take him or he will get hit by a car etc.
What about using a tie out? I have never done this with a cat and used to laugh at people who did. Not anymore.
I just want to know that I can find him to bring him in. He is the first male cat I have had and I did not think he would wander after being neutered. Please help I am at my wits end with this cat.

Kathy,

This is only my opinion but DO NOT tie your cat outside. That would be a death sentence for your cat. He would be a dog's lunch if by chance one happened by. He would have no way to escape. I don't know what kind of place you live in, but if you have a home, you might want to consider building an enclosed which would ensure his safety and let him enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

I have 7 cats that are all inside. I have lots of windows for them and a window box that they can lay in and watch birds and catch some fresh air.

Please, for your cats safety, don't tie him out. You might regret it.

Donna, I had not considered that. Thanks for responding. I was going to order one today. I am at my wits end trying to keep this cat in the house. I have 4 kids constantly in and out and Baron waits by the door and runs out when it is opened. Once out he won't even come to me because he knows I am going to bring him inside.

Up until this spring he had no desire to go outside. He has been neutered. Why is he wanting out all of a sudden. I have a big window seat and have both windows open so he can watch the birds. I also feed the birds right outside those windows so he has a lot to watch.

A year ago he got in a fight with a raccoon and almost died. That made him not want to go out. He was even scared of birds for a while. I am just afraid he will get hit by a car or taken by someone. I guess I will just have to figure out something else. Thanks again for the advice.
