Hello,
Was wondering if I can get some help. I have an older cat, in excellent shape but one problem. She seems to vomit after long naps, after eating some grass. Looks as the vomit is liquid clear, I am assuming acid. We have taken her to the vet, and have run all the test and also did an exploratory surgery just to make sure not cancer on the stomach or intestine. All surgery and test came back fine. The Vet is excellent, but we are all stumped. The Vet thinks she has (IP) I think acid reflux. We have her eating wet Royal Canin Veterinary Diet, and dry Eukanuba Low Residue Adult food. We give her a shot of Steroids and some barium every so often and this seems to sooth her stomach and will stop her from vomiting for a good two months. She does not loose weight and has a hardy appetite. I just feel real bad watching her vomit, but once it is over she is back to new until the next day after the nap. Any suggestions would be great.

Also she is on Atenolol for heart arrhythmia, and famotidine acid tablets daily. Not sure if the acid tablets really seem to do anything.

Thanks JR

Hi and welcome to TCS.

Cats eat grass when they have a stomach ache or hairball. It's the grass that causes the vomiting. I'm not talking about grass designed for cats like oat grass or catnip, rather the normal outside grass. She may be trying to get rid of a hairball. Something that I have found helpful is Laxatone or Petromalt.

Thank you for the reply. That is the first thing we check for at the vet. For some reason she is getting a acid build up, and not sure why?

Thanks JR

How much famotidine are you giving her? My Palekana is on famotidine due to a stomach ulcer. It's only since increasing her dosage to 1/4 tablet twice a day instead of once that her stomach seems settled and she is able to eat without problems.

Food makes a difference also. Palekana hated the Eukanuba Low Residue. She's now eating Natural Balance canned Chicken and Liver PatÃ[emoji]169[/emoji]. No vomiting for a week.

Good luck in finding a solution to your kitty's vomiting problem.
