I started this idea on another forum some time back and it grew into a quite a large section.

The idea is basically any one who is able to takes a snap of their desktop, as in their Windows desktop and posts it as a picture on the forums.

I take a snap of my desktop by pressing the 'Print Screen' key on my keyboard, this holds that image on the 'Clipboard'. If you open any decent image editing package (Paintshop Pro, Photoshop etc) you should then be able to right click and select something along the lines of 'Create new image here'. Anyway below is a snap of my desktop shrunk down from it's full size.

Hope you like it
Oh and the reason this started was because people are quite curious what other pictures and software people have on their desktop.

Gosh BuNN, I have a plain turquoise screen so it's not even worth snapping to show!

I sent a fab picture to Anne for the caption comp of my blue bundle, Balie looking like a cross-eyed diver. I'd LOVE to be able to use that as a desktop image.

Any idea how to get the image on there?

Yeah tis easy

Get the image you want to use and put it as a .bmp file into your Windows main folder (Usually C:\\Windows). Then right click on your desktop and then click on Properties. Next click on the 'Desktop' tag, cycle down the list of images and you should find your image in there. Click on it and click Apply. If the image is too small you can stretch it to fit the whole screen with the box on the lower left side of the Desktop option screen you just used.

There are other ways but I find that is the best. Alternatively you can right click on an image you like on the internet and select 'Save as background'. This then saves that image as your desktop

Hope that's clear I tend to ramble on :tounge2:

Thanks SO much. I just right-clicked on my upsidedown Balie pic in My Pictures and set him as my background, and there he is - in all his furry glory!

Cheers!

OK. Next lesson. I've got the pic of Balie on the desktop, now I can't find the print screen key. Is it in the same place on all keyboards?

Help BuNN, oh great Oracle of the internet!

I got my picture from www.savebiogems.org a website where you can send letters to help protect certain parts of the world, such as the Alaska Wildlife Refuge. You get points for each letter, and then can choose from different screensavers and wallpaper.

Yola - The Print Screen key is usually in the small bunch above the arrow keys. It may say 'Prt Src' or something like that. Some keyboards abreviate <sp> the words, so look for something similar.

Oh yeah stay away from the 'Self-Destruct' key it makes a real mess on the walls as I found out to my cost :tounge2:

Yup - got PrtSc - but it does diddly when I press it. Do I need to do it in conjunction with another key? I've tried every possible combination!

Oops. Just gotta get the jcloth and wipe the walls down . . .
'scuse me for a mo.

Just press it once, it saves exactly what you have on your screen, icons, pictures, programs running etc to the clipboard. Now you need a decent art program, I use Paintshop 'cause it's cheap and I'm a skinflint

Open the art program and just right click in the main working area and it should put up a small box (it does with Paintshop), then select 'New image' from that.

I just checked MS Paint and it doesn't have that option, but Paintshop Pro does. BTW you can download a Evaluation copy of Paintshop from their webpage if you need it.

I would recommend Paintshop to anyone, I've been using it for ages.

My desktop morphs...so a print screen would not do it justice. And probably wouldn't look good anyway!

Here is my desktop, this is not my choice. My husband is a huge WVU fan. If I changed the desktop, I would be dead, trust me. I want to set the computer up to where we can log in and have our own desktops. He said that he would set it up, but he hasn't got around to it.
