Hey guys:

Nyx's kittens are about 4.5 weeks old. The vet said that I should start making canned food mixed with some water available to them and stuff like that. But, I can't even get the kittens to drink any KMR that I try to give to them. I put it in a little jar lid and they just run away from it (then Nyx drinks all of it). I also tried offering it to them on a spoon but they were even more scared of that. How am I going to teach them to eat solid foods if they won't even take the milk?

Thanks!

I would make Nyx some canned food mixed with KMR...make it all slushy.

I like to put it on a dinner plate...makes it easier for them to get to it. Actually they will get IN it, but that's normal.

They will see her enjoying it and they will learn. They may just not be quite ready yet.

Kittens who are raised by mumcat (as opposed to hand-raised kittens) take a bit longer to get the hang of weaning. Beandip has given you a great suggestion. Also, you may find that they prefer dry kitten food. Put some of that out for them to experiment with as well.

As long as mom's nursing them, I never try to get kittens to eat solid foods till 5-6 weeks old. By that time they are more willing to try the canned kitten food and nibble on dry food.

Don't push it! You wind up more frustrated then its worth
