OMG, apparently there's a new kitty at the shelter weighing in at 31lbs (14kg)!!!

He just got neutered today so will be up for adoption in a day or two. Apparently he's a sweetheart, so I can't wait to go in and meet him! They say he's "morbidly obese", and not just big boned so will be on a diet and has already lost 1 1/2 lbs since he's been at the shelter!

Will let you know when photos are available

I imagine all he needs is a story in the paper and somebody will adopt him - especially if he's as sweet as they say. I'm not sure how old he is though.

I'm glad he got surrendered, hopefully he can get taken care of properly now! Morbidly obese and not neutered... I mean really!!!

Aww, I sure hope someone like Eithne comes along who knows about bigger kitties and how to take care of them like Scully

I didn't know ANYTHING about big cats when I took him, I didn't even know he was that big it was a pretty steep learning curve and takes more time and love than knowledge

At the shelter where I volunteer, we had a big white-and-black cat (I call 'em Holsteins) named Joey who weighed about the same. He was at the shelter on a special diet for seven years and never lost an ounce... but he was just as mellow and laidback a cat as you could want, very affectionate and easygoing. We thought he would be a permanent resident in our cat room, but a few months ago, he got adopted!
There's a family for every cat, if only you can find 'em.
