When I'm eating dinner, my kits have to come and sniff what I'm eating. 9 1/2 times out of 10, they have no interest in tasting it, just want to know what Meowmy is having.

Last night I was eating some Shepard's Pie (plain ground beef, nothing added, mixed with canned corn and Betty Crocker instant mashed - because I'm lazy and not a real cook, LOL.)

Ginger seemed VERY interested in the smell, so I put a little bit on a fork and offered it up for her nose. She sniffed and sniffed and sniffed, and just when it seemed like she was going to take a taste, she changed her mind and walked away, nose up in the air.

Up next was Ferris, always 2nd in line (unless it is morning snack time, then he pushes his face right in front of Ginger's, the scoundrel!) He sniffed, sniffed, sniffed, then decided he wanted to taste some.

He started licking up the little bit of mashies, then ate the one corn kernal, then came back to finish up the little bit of mashie-covered ground beef. All off my fork, of course.

It was face licking delicious, as far as he was concerned. He thanked me, hopped off the bed to go have a wash, and I went back to my now slightly colder dinner.

Gotta love 'em!

Silly Ferris! Glad he enjoyed his treat.

We have to be careful who we let sniff what we're eating. Trent can sniff anything, because the only people food he wants to taste is milk and tuna juice. But he wants to know what we have, no matter how many times I tell him, "Trent that's Diet Coke and you don't like it."
And he still gives me that look that says, "Oh my god - you eat that? That's GROSS!"

Ophelia only wanted sauces and gravy. Other than that she was pretty good.

Ginger is a mooch and will eat it if it's unattended.

Mojo is a BRAT and will try at every meal to jump headlong into anything edible. She doesn't have to taste it, she'll just swallow it as fast as she can gulp it.
Plates do NOT go unattended anymore!

I used to have a green budgie (parakeet) that was just like that. Once I was eating a bowl of spagettios, and he decided to land IN it instead of on the side of the bowl.

He had bright orange belly feathers and legs for WEEKS.

It didn't matter what it was, if I was eating it, he was eating it, too! (Except for things like avacado or chocolate, which are deadly to some animals and birds.)

Once again, Mojo is just like her twin Smudge!!! Smudge eats ANYTHING, and is constantly crawling over us while we have dinner. I've started blowing on her face when she tries to get my dinner, and she's slowly learning, but she'll pounce on our plates the second we put them down!

Like Mojo, she doesn't sniff and taste, she just gobbles it down.

Was Mojo ever a stray? I've noticed a lot of former stray kitties are just thankful to have food, no matter what it is.

Here, Tomas will attempt to dive in. A few days ago I was making some steamed veggies and dropped a pea on the floor. Tomas didn't seem to mind, after chasing it around the floor a bit because it would roll out from under his mouth, he munched it down and asked for another.

Abby is like Ginger. She investigates the smell, but most of the time she doesn't bother to taste. When she does it's a single lick, and if she likes it she takes a few more licks, but she doesn't "eat" people food....just licks it.

Chynna hasn't met a "people food" that she doesn't like, LOL Olives, pickles, oranges... you name it she likes it.

Our Stumpy was a stray, and she's very polite about food, she just loves her cat food. Our old kitty Byron had been living on the streets for a while, and HATED people food. You could leave out hot, fresh, roasted chicken next to him, and he just didn't care.

Smudge on the other hand we've had since she was 3 weeks old, and she always been been such a garbage guts!!

My mom's little 9-month-old hooligan, St. John, is definitely a member of our family -- he shares our love of parmesan cheese. I can't have a bowl of pasta without a little orange furball bounding up on the table like there's an emergency!
The only way I can eat in peace is to sprinkle a little parmesan on the table for him, and he just loves it. Doesn't seem to disturb his tummy, either, and he's very slim, so... ah, why not?

OMG I had a budgie that loved people food too. He loved fudgicles and scrambled eggs. I would call out "Birdie, num nums" and he would fly and land right on the fudgicle and take a few nibbles. And he would sit on my plate when I had eggs and share them.

I sure miss that bird. He was the only bird that I have ever encountered that was "potty" trained. He never pooped anywhere except in his cage. He had the run of the house and his cage door was never closed.
