Does anybody know what some of the chemical sounding ingredients are in wet foods? They seem to be in pretty much every brand I've seen. I'm just curious as to what they are, or what they're used for.

For example, this is the list for Wellness' chicken formula:

Chicken, Chicken Liver, Turkey, Chicken Broth, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Natural Chicken Flavor, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Flaxseed, Squash, Cranberries, Blueberries, Zucchini, Potassium Chloride, Garlic, Dicalcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Taurine, Iron Proteinate (a source of Chelated Iron), Beta-Carotene, Zinc Proteinate (a source of Chelated Zinc), Vitamin E Supplement, Choline Chloride, Cobalt Proteinate (a source of Chelated Cobalt), Thiamine Mononitrate, Copper Proteinate (a source of Chelated Copper), Folic Acid, Manganese Proteinate (a source of Chelated Manganese), Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin B-12 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Biotin.

This may get colorful

ATE and ITE endings are MOSTLY naturally derived from food and or mineral salts

So it's basically a lot of vitamins and minerals and such? If we were looking at a cat in the wild, where would they be getting a lot of these?

They would get them from there kills ... the mineral s would likely be from the bones and cartilage ... the food based from the muscle ,organs and possible stomach content s and the chewing on wild grains/greens... the reason for so MANY vitamins and mineral s in commercial food is the COOKING process takes away alot of the naturally occuring stuff ( think about milk and why they add A and D when these are NATURALLY occuring)... Raw diets come closer but since it aint fresh kill it to has lost some and non wild animals are less nutritious
