This is one thing I've never made. I'm in the mood for a good hearty breakfast. I sent DH to the store for milk and biscuits and I'm going to make eggs too. I think I have some skillet hashbrowns in the cabinet (cheating I know!) Not sure what else we should have....some fruit sounds good. Hmm.....but what kind....

I'm a decent cook, but this for some reason seems intimidating. Maybe because it's not something my primarily Italian family cooked growing up! I'm sure my Very Southern Mother In Law could teach me a thing or two about it though....

Rofl!! If you'd tried to serve that to my grandma Anna (who came over from Sicily as a young teen) she'd have looked at you like you were nuts!

My dh loves country gravy and biscuits, but I cheat...I'll do the biscuits from scratch and cook eggs and sausages, but I have simply bought a mix for the gravy
Too salty though.

I'd love it if a recipe were shared here? Please?

(and any Italian recipes you want to swop??)

My recepe is SO easy!

I use the Grands Buscuits, they are huge and really yummy!

For the gravy- I make a milk gravy- I use Jimmy Dean's Italian Sausage, it has a good spice to it so its not so bland.

I brown that in a pan, and drain the grease.
Then I mix in about 1 1/2 cups of milk in with the sausage
Then add in about 3 spoonfulls of flour (however much you think you'll need, depending on how thick you like it)
Then I let that simmer for about 15 minutes (until thick)

And then serve over the buscuits with salt/pepper!

Thanks to this thread, we're having that for supper tonight!

Your welcome! Its sooo easy, and really wonderful.

Pat, what kind of gravy do you use with yours? A milk based one? I've never tried it any other way than this one, nor have I heard of any other way either!

Good recipe! I"d like to add that you can shake the milk and flour in a jar, then add it to the bits in the pan and cook until thickened (no lumps that way).

This breakfast will keep you going until dinner!

Biscuits are a quick bread, not sweet.

You fry the sausages (and serve them, too), and the tasty bits at the bottom of the pan are what you use for the gravy. The sausages are usually the flat slices, not links. The gravy is very milky and a little spicy and gooooood.

awwww.......those - I would call those scones - which are usually sweet, with either raisins, sultanas or cherries in, the savoury ones usually have cheese in.

So would you eat your biscuits just with sausages ? I suppose the gravy is what I would call a white sauce .....think I'm with you on this one now

thanks for the explanation

Its really a heavy meal- so we usually have it for lunch on weekends, or supper during the weeknight. We never have it for breakfast
