Does anyone else have this and does it flare up on you from time to time?

I was supposed to go back to work last night (been on vacation) but couldn't because of it.

Thanks. It hasn't bothered me like this since before I had a colonoscopy last year. I'm having some abdominal soreness as well as diahrea and blood. I've also been somehwhat lethargic. All of these are common symptoms of it. I have a doctor appointment monday, mainly because I called in for the weekend (I'm off on monday and tuesday so I might as well just take it easy).

When I had the colonoscopy the doctor said I had colitis and also mentioned some early signs of diverticulosis. Would that be the same as diverticulitis? I'm not sure.

Ick! Sounds like no fun! I hope your feeling better soon!

My Grandma has IBS and a few years ago had surgery for Diverticulitis. She'd had it longer than I can ever remember.

I had or guess have Diverticulitis, Since you dont really get rid of it. i dont remember abdominal soreness, Just blood when going to the bathroom.
i went to the hospital after about a half a day of seeing blood there. As yes you can die or passout form losing blood that way.

I'm so sorry to hear about your health issues. You really need to educate yourself about management and treatments, both traditional and non-traditional. I've heard great success for different bowel conditions with these products. Colitus is very difficult to diaognose, so you may do well trying something that treats general bowel difficulties before getting a more specific treatment program. Good luck and follow the link!

No, diverticulitis and diverticulosis are two different things -- and thank goodness, the one your doctor saw signs of is the less serious problem. Did he give you any advice on changing your diet to help with it?

Thanks. Yeah, I've changed the diet a bit and eat more fiber. I try to avoid seeds and nuts when I fail- so much for my addiction to pistachios
. I've always drank a lot of water so that part is covered.

Thanks but no thanks in regards to the Dr. Natura stuff. That whole site is nothing but useless spam anyway. Colitis and other bowel disorders aren't all that difficult to diagnose (hence the colonoscopy and being seen by a specialist). Also, a colonoscopy is useful in ruling out more serious conditions. Colitis and its treatment depends on the person and the severity of the case. For those who suffer from ulcerative colitis surgery is the only cure. A proper/well-balanced diet is the best way to keep the condition under control but for those who have colitis there is always chance for remission which can occur months or even years down the road. However, there isn't a single group of foods that cause the condition to flare up.

I'm so sorry you have this trouble. It must be so irritating and frustrating.

As for the Colonix, my sister swears by it. I have been lucky enough so far to never feel the need to look into it. She says it really helps. She has had colon/constipation issues her entire life. The thing that really seemed to help was finding out she has food allergies. She has cut out so many foods but for the first time in her life, feels "normal". I don't think I would take the measures she has but until I face something like that, I just don't know.

Sending vibes this condition settles down for you and that you'll be able to get back to work soon!

The difference between ulcerative colitis and constipation is vast. If people feel the need to do colonics for minor problems, to each their own.

But recommending it for ulcerative colitis is... strange. And insinuating that people who aren't doing them need to "educate" themselves is a little offensive. My mother has had two major surgeries, and a colonic wouldn't help her because she doesn't have one left.

So, I'm sorry, but I'll keep taking my advice from MD's, which Dr Natura is not. I'd also like to point out that her site doesn't even recommend her product for colitis.

Because I don't know much about any of these conditions, I sincerly hope this was not directed at me. I simply stated what I did know of and expressed my hope that the OP soon feels better. If only experts are allowed to comment on any threads, we will have very few replies to any.

Bonnie, I don't think that it was directed at you. There was an earlier post in this thread where the Dr. Natura site was linked and a comment about the "need to educate yourself" was made.

Thanks for the get well wishes, I do appreciate it.

Diverticulosis is the outpouching of the wall of (usually) the colon, specifically, the sigmoid colon.

Diverticulitis is an infection in the outpouching of the wall of the colon. These infections can burst (often called a perforation), causing peritonitis (basically an infection of the abdominal cavity), septicemia (a systemic infection in the bloodstream) and death. It is usually treated with systemic antibiotics (and sometimes percutaneous drainage of an abcess) and then removal of the diseased portion of the colon to prevent further complications and recurrant bouts of diverticulitis.

I assist surgery with a colo-rectal surgeon, so I see these surgeries on practically a daily basis!

I had it when I was much younger for about 5 years. The good news for me and the hope for you is that it went away and hasn't reocurred for about 25 years now. Sending vibes that you get thru it quickly without reocurrance.

I stopped bleeding sometime yesterday, Bruce. I still have a bit of sore abs (they are buried somewhere beneath my "stored muscle"
) and am a little lethargic still. I go to the doc tomorrow afternoon.

Good stuff, Pookie-poo! Thanks. I have question for you, if you don't mind. Since I have colitis and diverticulosis, how often should I have a colonoscopy done? I also had a polyp removed but it was nothing to cause concern.
