How beautiful! And that you and your hubby designed it makes it even better. What a fantastic job you guys did on picking out all of the colors and textures that really go well together. Perfect!

That is absolutely amazing! Your kitchen looks like something out of a magazine!
That's my big wish - for a great kitchen to cook in!

You're right though, that yellow just doesn't quite fit....are you going to try a sort of cream color or something next? Though I think a warm, brick red might work to....Terrific job!

Anyone who wants to stop in and cook a meal or 2 is fine by me!!
We started cooking in it long before it was finished - I pushed to get an electrical outlet installed for the stove and I laid plywood on the cabinet as a temporary countertop. The last 2 things completed this week were the backsplash and the vent over the stove.

Everyone who walks in for the first time notices the floor first. It is one of my favorites and I probably hit a dozen stores before I found it. I saw it, knew that it was the right one then built the color scheme (wood stain, backsplash, countertop) from the floor.

Second favorite for a long time was the ash wood grain on the cabinets, but that is now tied with the backsplash. It took us about 9 months to pick that out and it was another thing that when we saw it, we knew it was the right one.

Hubby and I had numerous arguments on the yellow on the wall. We went with a yellow tone because we had been looking for a gold in the countertop and backsplash (didn't do either). I went for a creamy pale yellow which I was going to rag over with an amber color. He called it baby puke yellow and countered the argument with a primary shade of yellow. I compromised in the middle (shouldn't have done that) and now we both hate it. I'll simply go back to the original plan, but first will rag one of the walls with a cream to see if it will tone down from that.

I'll also make some valances for over the window. There are cordless blinds on all the windows for privacy. But with all the stone the room sounds like an echo chamber and we need to put some cloth in there to deaden the echo.

So I guess the project isn't actually done, but all the construction part is. I'm finally putting away all the loose ends that landed around the house when we started the project. Oh yeah, and we have to rebuild the bathroom in the basement (minor detail).

We were thinking about this the other night. We started the project simply to remodel the kitchen. But we are getting a new dining room (the walls and ceiling were restructured), a new utility room, a coat closet (which we didn't have before), a new bathroom, a new deck (we had to build one to get out the new kitchen door which isn't in a picture), and the kitchen itself.

And I'm already onto the next room (just paint this time).

It looks fantastic, Amy. What's the color of the range, fridge, and exhaust hood? They look sort of "coppery" in the photos, but I imagine they wouldn't be actual copper.

Our pendant lights have an amber cover so they do give off a coppery glow. The appliances are all stainless. The jury is out on the finger print problem with them.

The kids had their first meal (7PM canned food snack) in the kitchen tonight. We had been feeding in the kitchen but moved their feeding to the sun porch for the last 6 months. They were a bit confused, but I think they'll adjust pretty quickly. Scarlett is fed on "The Cat Walk". Muddy and Koko eat behind closed doors in the utility room (they are piglets and don't have food manners). Stumpy gets the dining room table. The rest all congregate in the middle of the floor. 11 bowls for 11 kitties.

We pondered long and hard on how to make it a social gathering place. We were going to make a u-shaped kitchen without the step up bar counter, then decided to push out the wall to add the counter. It is really the perfect place to hang out and watch the activities going on. We need to find some good bar stools.
