Nat...Don't mess around go to a dermatologist and have them check you once a year, I do it and they have taken some off of me. They usually say oh you are olive skinned you should be fine
HELLO!! I know a girl who had a melanoma she is in her mid 20's she tanned non stop...she is in very bad shape right now, they took most of her hip and some of her leg, it's not a pretty picture I know, but it's reality. Go get checked for peace of mind

Well, there's OHIP, and then I do have health benefits through work as well. I have never checked it for dermatologist visits though. I will check next week.

Yeah, that sounds about what mine would be too..although thinking back, I don't recall "dermatologist" being on the list of practitioners..I do remember weird ones like Podiatrist and Chiropodist though
Who even needs those kind of doctors?

On the west side of... of... somewhere.
I agree with everything said so far... I myself am long overdue for a 'mole check'. the Dermatologist i use is a few hundred miles away. I went to another once for another issue and he was NOT a good Doc. The only Derm. I trust is down in the SF/Bay Area... I hope to be going back down there soon, but need to schedule an appt WELL in advance.

My aunt used to sunbathe constantly... in her 60's, she was diagnosed with skin cancer, but it was caught early enough... She now stays well out of the sun... I have had numerous bad burns, mostly on my back... so of course, that's where the bad moles are appearing... where i can't see them. I have two that need to get checked/removed... one has grown a bit and is bugged by a bra strap, and the other was irritated by a treatment my now-former chiropractor was trying (a scraping thingy that works on the muscles... she ran over the one mole and that sucked HURT!! She wasn't even scraping that hard)

ifany of them get irritated easily, that's another sign... go get checked by a Dermatologist!!!

Like any cancer, early detection is imporant. I think the doctors here even make a little map to keep an eye on your moles, and check it every year for changes or new ones.

I just read an article about a 23 year old girl that already had numerous skin cancer spots removed...and I find myself freaking out

I feel like I was already pegged to get skin cancer because I am so fair skinned and have had many very extreme sun burns in my life..and then the stupid cherry on the top of tanning last year for probably half the year.

I think during my next medical, I am going to really have a serious chat with my doctor..I am very worried
I am a blue eyed blond and have therefore had melonoma twice. In addition, I am a prostate cancer survivor. Regarding the skin cancer just make sure you are checked completely every six months and stay out of the sun! My entire face was cut open but nobody can tell now after three years. Do worry, but do not worry unduly, you can prevent it from being fatal 99%. This is almost true of any cancer, if I had not had a PSA when I did, I would be dead of prostate cancer. JUST KEEP GETTING CHECK UPS!
