What's she got against hot beverages?

One of my three cats, Kitiara, has some very peculiar habits. Every morning I get up and make a cup of hot tea. Then I stroll to my office, sit here at my computer and check my agenda for the day while I drink my tea. Every morning Kit walks across my desk, stretches out her nose, sniffs my tea cup and recoils shaking her head like the tea is the nastiest thing she has ever experienced. Now, once is funny. Twice is kind of funny, too. Four thousand seven hundred and fifty times raises a few questions like: What's so nasty about tea in the first place? If it smells so nasty why does she keep smelling it? and How many times do we have to do this before she learns she doesn't like the smell of tea?

Any thoughts?

A few answers to questions that may arise. Typically I drink Lemon Ginger tea which isn't truly tea because there are no tea leaves. I also drink Earl Grey and English Breakfast teas. All tea prompts the same reaction.

LOL! i don't know. my stimpy doesn't like hot beverages because they are hot. sometimes he runs away if he's been sitting on the counter and i pour in my hot water into my cup to make the tea. even though he's never right next to the cup. i drink black teas during the day and herbal/caffeine free in the afternoons/evenings.

oh, and i had a tea with catnip as part of a tea blend. my other 2 cats were not to be trusted near the cup. stimpy didn't go near it, but the other 2 kept sniffing it. one tried to run away with the teabag while i was preparing the water.

I didn't really expect any serious answers! My husband and I always get a laugh out of it so I thought I'd share. Friday on the other hand has to be watched if you have coffee. He'll drink it right out of your cup! He is the smartest cat in my house but I'm not sure if the coffee has any bearing on that! Lol!

Leopold likes coffee too. He usually doesn't drink it, but if you leave a cup sitting around that HAD coffee in it, he will stick his whole face in the mug to lick the yummy coffee residue off.

I thought I'd have the only cat coffee conoisseur (that looks terribly misspelled) but I just read Beandip's post

My Roo has FOREVER dipped his paws in my coffee, then proceeds to lick his paw clean. Over. And. Over.

He doesn't come near it when it's just poured and hot -- smart lil guy
