OK, my engagement ring is back from being resized and on my finger.

I'm so paranoid about doing anything wrong with it that I would like to get it insured. However, my question is: which insurance company?

Is it through Renters Insurance (we rent)? Or through some other insurance I've never heard of like expensive jewelry insurance?

Through your renters....you just have to add the coverage up to the value of the ring...it shouldn't cost that much more per month

I think you can add it to your renters insurance. If you had home owners insurance it would go on that. Also, since your stone is set with prongs have the setting checked regularly. Mine is set flush in a band so I don't have to worry about bent prongs and loose settings. It's great becasue I wear it 24/7 and I'm always accidentally bumping into things with my hand. My band is scratched but the stones are still completly secure.

Nuh uh...might give me away!
My husband has my ring under his parents' homeowner's insurance, but it is also "insured" through the jeweler. By that, I get it checked twice a year, and if the diamond pops out, but I've kept up with the inspections, they will replace the diamond.

However, each jeweler is different, so I would check. And it does not cover theft (the homeowner's insurance covers everything else).

We rent, but it is not on our renter's insurance, but I'm sure that you can call your insurance company and ask them. Good luck and congratulations!!!

Well... it depends on the terms and conditions. Your renters insurance will most likely have a deductable if anything happens to it in your home (ie if someone breaks in and takes it). The expensive jewelry insurance may only cover things like loose stones and dammage. Make sure that you read EVERYTHING involved on making an insurance purchace, because if you don't you can be missing something. If you want to send me the terms via PM please feel free I work at an insurance company and can break it down into real langage not the legal stuff that no one understands.

We have my ring insired though our homeowners-your company might want an appraisal though. And coverage can vary as I found out-my ring is covered for "named" losses but is not covered for repair (doc cut ring off my finger) type loss. So it would be good to explor exactly what and how much they cover.

Thanks everyone, I thought it might be renters...actually the sad thing is that I don't have renters insurance at the moment.
BUT I placed a request for a couple of quotes this morning

Thanks for the tips on the prongs. I need that especially since sometimes I'm taking a computer apart and digging through it at work (or home).

Here is how it works here: (I am the renters/home insurance specialist in our office)

It would be covered by your renters policy, but most likely there is a limit. For instance, out limit is $2500 per item. If your ring is worth more than that, I would get a Personal Article Policy. That is a seperate policy that you can cover just the ring on. We offer that policy with no deductible..The renters insurance policy will most likely have a deductible. Also, a claim made on the renters policy will most likely affect your premium (as in increase it).

I would personally suggest getting renters insruance anyway, but perhaps finding a company that will insure the ring separately, so if there is a loss, it doesn't make your renters insurance increase.

Also, FYI, our personal articles policy covers for ANY loss or damage. Not named perils.

As Heather said, if you need to PM me, I'm happy to help. I am licensed in this stuff
