While I certainly agree that the $ value he is seeking for damages is beyond ridiculous and completely unreasonable (as is his apparent lack of willingness to settle for a more than generous amount offered by the cleaners), this man is well within his rights to sue.
He entrusted his “treasured†(LOL) pants to the care and control of this business and the cleaners consequently lost them. As such, the cleaners were negligible and did not honour their business contract with this man.
However, I completely agree with all of you saying that he is being ridiculous. In fact, IMO, he should be thoroughly ashamed of himself. As a judge, he should know better than to waste to the court’s time over such as stupidly trivial matter. I also would love to see his disbarred, but you know that will never happen.
I agree he was within his rights to sue, just as the KKK is within their right to spew hateful garbage from their mouths... it's the price of our society that in order to make sure our rights aren't trampled we have to give those same rights to people who are too stupid to exercise them properly.
BUT. As soon as he refused to allow them to just give him his pants back, in good condition, after they found them, he lost his true right to sue them because that proves he doesn't really want his pants back.
And he sort of already has been disbarred, and certainly has been shunned publicly.
