If they can't afford a lawyer there is NO WAY anyone would ever give him anything close to what he is seeking. They should countersue him, for all their lost time and business and everything else.

Also, they own three dry cleaners. How is he claiming he needs a rental car for every weekend for ten years to go to a different one? RIDE THE SUBWAY.

That might be the most frivolous lawsuit ever. And good reason to suspect he is a bad judge.

Sounds like he's mad his pants were too tight.

It seems like it!

That man should be debarred, IMO. it's not only a frivolous lawsuit, but he's tying up the courts, and wasting taxpayers' money.

can we hang him?

This should be tossed as a nuisance suit and he should reimburse the dry cleaners for any legal fees. This is a material possession and can be replaced. He doesn't have to go to this dry cleaners and if he chooses to use one in another town then he must bear the costs.

What an idiot.

Edit: He isn't going to get anything - I guess his only goal is to destroy these people over $800 pants. This is really sad.
They must have been some nice pants.
If he'd gone to Burlington Coat Factory he could have gotten the same pants for $89.95.

"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -William Shakespeare

or, if you prefer, you could go with 1 Corinthians 6:7 if you're a fan of the Bible.

Honestly. Ok, so they lost your pants more than once. You've been "wronged". And I'll agree, that's annoying and the makings of a bad day, probably, something you call your mom about or relieve the stress of with a beer when you get home. Then, YOU SWITCH DRY CLEANERS. That's what's great about capitalism, you know. There is more than one dry cleaners competing, and you can find one that give you the service you prefer! Wow!

Satisfaction guaranteed is a tired old catchphrase that can't possiby be taken seriously. Nothing in life is guaranteed, not even your dry cleaning. So grow up and get over it and stop acting like a whole country full of spoiled, petulant 6 year olds.

Excellent usage of Shakespeare Yay!

They did try to give him satisfaction guarantee remedy too, a) they claim they have his pants, which if it's true and I think it is, all they're obligated to do is give them back and b) they offered him well more than his darn used trousers were worth!

You just know this is the type who really thinks he's teaching them a lesson and that they seriously wronged him and how dare they! You know, because he's certainly never made a mistake or lost anything in his entire life.

I saw this news and I am thinking WTH!! They have offered to more than compensate him for the entire suit for goodness sakes..Leave them alone!
The more I think about this - I think he should be removed from being a judge. How can such a person be impartial if he can so blatantly blow something like this out of proportion and be so unreasonable? His only purpose of this is to destroy these people.
He has probably ruined his career, anyway. Whether he gets formally disbarred because of it or not.

Although the American Tort Association's president has written a letter asking them to reconsider renewing his appointment. Not sure how much weight he carries, though. And other judges agree with you. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070503/...n_dollar_pants

He's gonna lose, and I'm gonna laugh.

Geez, talk about a waste of our tax dollar!!!!!! And the idiot behind it all is a Judge!

I just saw this on the TV....and according to the dry cleaners they later found the pants and even offered the guy several thousand dollars in compensation.

However, the guy turned it down and decided to sue a hard working family with a frivilous lawsuit siting an obscure "consumer protection law" of "customer service guaranty."

Apparently the people who own the dry cleaners are from China and came to the US to live the American dream of being able to own their own business and live free. However, they have been so stressed out and upset about this whole lawsuit and the money it's costing them, that they are thinking of moving back the China.

Way to go Judge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Choked up? Crying? Puh-LEEZE

Only in America, stuff like this makes us look like the imbeciles we are.
If the lost dry cleaning cost $54 million, then I can understand. However if someone pays that much for a pair of pants, they're WAY overpaid.

Just accept the cash for the replacement cost and go on with your little life.

It should be thrown out!! that's crazy!!
that guy is rediculious. i hope the judge who oversees this case punishes him by making him stand out in the street with his boxers on with a sign that says "i'm an idiot" or something good like thatwhat a waste of our legal system's money! He should be debarred.
Oh my! Just saw this on the news! This is the most ridiculous/ frivilous lawsuit I ever seen!

He should have to pay everyone in the courtroom for wasting their time!
