Hi all,

I have a 6 month old kitten who was just spayed. She is currently on an antibiotic for 10 days.

Since she has come home, she has started to act very different than she used to act (before the surgery and when she 1st got home after the surgery).

What she is doing differently:
She doesn't have the same appetite; she will eat, but become dis-interested before she is finished.
She has started to become less active. She sits with tired eyes all the time.
She won't play with her sister like she used to.
She has diarreha (assuming this is from the antibiotic).
Her coat doesn't look as shiny and well kept as it used to. It looks a little greasy in areas.

If this continues I am going to bring her to the vet. Any suggestions??

How long ago actually was she operated on? If it was just a day ago, I wouldn't worry, but if it's been 4-5 days, get to the vet. There's no point in guessing at what's wrong (whether it was the surgery, the antibiotic or some infection) but the vet will figure it out (hopefully!) and if not then go to another one (and bring the pill bottle).

Depending on when she had the surgery, this would be normal if she just got done today or yesterday.

She has started to become less active. She sits with tired eyes all the time.
Normal to be a bit quiet, as she recovers.

She won't play with her sister like she used to.
She should be kept quiet and not play so as not to damage the wound.

As Larke said, if it's been 4-5 days, you should at least call your vet.

Spaying is MAJOR surgery - some bounce back faster. My older females took about a week to get back on schedule. As long as the stitches are not red or hot or any puss, she will be fine - continue the antiobiotics as prescribed. I'm assuming she will return in 2 weeks for them to take the stiches out?
