Hello. I have a serious question. Can anyone describe what a tapeworm looks like. I believe I have found one on the couch slithering around. I killed it. It was quarter inch to half inch long and it was peachy brown and it had a tail like thing. Oscar had a bath and a flea dip on 04-24-2007.
If it was a tapeworm whats going to happen next? He is going to go get whatever it takes on Friday. Just someone tell me what to do.

Thanks Oscar and Ashley

Usually if it is tapeworm, they will have little(about the size of rice) white things next to their bum area. I have never seen one so I don't know what it was that you saw..Good luck to you..

My Daphne just had tapeworm and the segments that break off in their stool look like little grains of rice. The thing you saw sounds different but I don't know that much about them. Hoping someone with more knowledge than me pops up to help you

It could have been a hookworm,by the way you describe it. But then,a tapeworm will change from a "grain of rice" looking thing, into a stretched out piece of string form before it dries out. It kinda looks like a cat in a pillow case if you watch it.(ETA) Inside the tapeworm segments are thousands of eggs moving and wiggling around. A hook worm kinda looks like the letter "J". Yep,I'd definitely see about getting him dewormed.

I would have a stool sample before I had him dewormed. Not sure if you see tapeworms slithering on couches. It may have been something you brought in from outside. Would not subject the cat ot harsh chemicals unless I knew for sure.

I can tell you what it looks like after a cat throws it up (or however they get rid of it once treated). I literally FLIPPED OUT when I saw it when Angel had it.

It was long...but kind of thing in width (maybe .25 inch or less)...and the sides were sort of jagged. Color of pasta. OMG. It was creepy. Not sure really what pieces may look like otherwise...but yes....stool sample!!! Get one to the vet!
