She's fading fast...

UPDATE: Some how she made it through the night. I kept giving her Karo syrup, homemade pedialite and nutri-cal for several hours. She was peeing, which I think was good, but she wouldn't eat at all. I had to force feed her. My little girl dropped to her knees and started praying. I prepared her for the worst and told her it was just a matter of time.

I had another horrible thing happen last night so kitties had to kind of take the back burner (I fed them, but it was already midnight at that point.) My husband had tried killing himself. He's away for training with the Army. Anyway, I ended up going to sleep and woke up at 5 expecting her to not have made it. She looked up at me, meowed and drank almost 20ccs of formula! I couldn't believe it. She's even fiesty today.
God answered my daughter's prayer to save this kittie, and mine to save my husband.
What a night.

I thought they were all doing so well. Yesterday they all got diarreah (maybe from kitten glop so I switched them back to formula today). Maybe this one wasn't eating AS much as the others, but I totally did not expect this.
I reached in the crate and I saw that her eyes are kind of glassy. She looks bad, she's limp, and breathing fast. I tried feeding her but she just let it drip out of her mouth. I tried sugar water, and the same thing. i really do not think she's going to make it. Whenever I try to stroke her she heaves like she's going to throw up, and cries a little cry, almost in pain. I have her on my chest right now, just waiting for her to pass. It's the sadest thing I've ever experienced. I feel like such a failure.
I called the vet and it would be $125 just to see her, and the vet doesn't think there's much to be done at this point.

I'm not cut out for this.

As difficult and heartbreaking as it is, you are NOT a failure at this...you're doing the best you can.

It truly does sound like the little one is not going to make it, and for that I'm so very sorry.

Do not beat yourself up. The best thing you can do now is make sure he/she is as comfortable as possible while he/she passes.

I know it hurts but having you there, warm and caring, is such a gift to the little one. You are doing all that can be done.

I am deeply sorry you are having to go through all of this, but I just can't help but to ask ... did the vet not suggest that the kitten be brought in to be humanely euthanized???

I know this is very hard, but it happens very often with orphans. Without knowing the vaccination status and nutritional status of Momma cat, these babies just have a really rought time surviving no matter our best efforts.

You need to remember that without you, these babies wouldn't have had a chance at all.

If your vet won't euthanize a sick and dying baby for less than 125, maybe contact the local shelter and see if they would be willing to euth for cost if any f the others become sickly. It is so sad watching them slowly die. We just know when they hit the point of no return.

I will be sending lots of vibes that the other babies are all well and going to thrive.

Lots of hugs to you for having to go through this sadness.

How is the little one? Please keep her as warm as you can. Use a hot water bottle or even a soda bottle filled with hot water and wrapped in a thin towel. Put her on top of it so she can absorb the warmth. Something else you can do is to get a long sock, fill it with uncooked white rice and tie a knot in the open end or quickly sew it closed. Put it in the microwave and heat it for a minute or two. Make sure it is very warm but not too hot and put the kitten on top of this. Why I say on top is because heat rises.

YOur post brings back sad memories of 2 of my foster kittens. My shelter actually had me bring them to the vet. I was surprised because I really felt they wouldn't make it. They didn't, but I was glad they were willing to go the extra mile to help the little babies. I picture you holding the little one, and it brings tears to my eyes. I blamed myself too, but it isn't your fault. And I agree with kitty monsters about finding a shelter that might euthanize for you if you believe there's no hope.

I'm so sorry about the little one
Kittens are so fragile though, and sometimes they just aren't strong enough to survive, no matter what you do to help.

Hugs

Oh my goodness! I am so sorry to hear about your husband. Is there anyone who could help you with the kittens or even take over their care, so you can have some time to deal with what's happening with your hubby?
