I finally had a happy ending with a foster mom. Molly had 5 beautiful babies yesterday. (Before her, I had 2 different foster moms that lost all their babies) I've had Molly for about 3 weeks. She's very sweet and always wants to be near me when I'm downstairs with her. When I went downstairs yesterday afternoon, she led me over to the box (where I had hoped she would have her babies). She went in, out, in, out, in Purring loudly, crying. Poor baby. Then she dashed out and ran into the kitty condo. And that's where she had them. I've never had a pregnant mom make so much noise. My first mom was so quiet I didn't even know she had them until I heard the little mews. (And I was sitting only a few feet away from her).

I did not think she would have them in the condo, so there weren't any towels in there, and now it stinks. I moved the kittens to the nice cozy box this morning, but she started moving them back so I put a towel down under them, but I'm hoping she'll decide to move them back to the box soon. Any suggestions?

They all appear to be doing well. Everyone finds a nipple and their little bellies are looking good. I love it when they take their nap in their little pile and Molly comes out for some attention from me. She's not upset about me touching her babies either. I had to clean one up for her cause she had 2 pop out so quick, she was ignoring the 1st one who was still in the sac.

Hope to have some pictures soon.

Oh yeah, another question. All my other kittens always had their ear flaps down when they were born and didn't go up for a while. These guys already have their ears up?

Perhaps put the kittens in the box and then remove or block off the condo. Molly may settle into the box then.

As for the kitten's ears, how 'erect' are they? My newborn kittens sometimes have 'perky' ears.

Can I ask why all the kittens from both mumcats died? Are you feeding mum a good quality kitten food?

I foster from the animal shelter I volunteer for. When I brought Haley home, she already had a uri, and was pretty miserable. She only had 2 babies. One died right away. Her 2nd baby died a day later.
Maxine was next. She seemed fine, but when I came downstairs, I found 4 dead kittens, one she had cleaned off, the others she hadn't. They didn't have fur, so I'm guessing she just went into labor too early. Maxine later went on to foster the "tabby tikes" that you sometimes see in my siggy when its working. I was a week after her babies died, but she nursed them and was very protective of them.

Both moms ate Science diet kitten food wet and dry. I have had other moms who did fine. I think if Maxine and Haley had been my first fosters, I would have quit doing it.

Maybe they are just perky ears. Molly's ears are kind of small compared to my last mom Rosie (her babies were already a few weeks old when I got her)

So, Molly finally got out of the condo last night. I took her kittens out, ripped out the contaminated carpet from the floor of it, and put clean bedding in for her and the babies. She was quite relieved to be back in there. Still don't know why she wouldn't like the box better-- I have it closed except for the flap at the front where she can get in and out--so its like a cave too. But I'll let her use the condo and just keep changing her bedding. (Afraid if I blocked off the condo, she might move her kittens under the couch like a couple of other moms did--no matter how hard I worked to block it off) 2 days old and both mom and kittens look great. She's eating and using her litter box and loving her babies.

I love how Molly kneads the air while she's lying on her side with her kittens nursing. Its so cute!
