Resources for people with no $$ & cat medical bills

On one of the local freecycle sites this am there was a long plea from a 13 yr old boy who has a cat with some serious health problems such a pneumonia and megaesophagus and a hernia. He lives in a lower income part of town and is going to have a rummage sale to raise money for his very ill cats operation (s). I would like to point him to some internet sources for funding but cannot find a thread easily that has these sources.
I am going to email him these along with some suggestions (like donating directly to vet clinic), etc. that would help improve his chances for donations. I don't think this is a scam. He listed his name and address. Any help would be great.

Thanks for the advise I forwarded this information on to the pet owner. She has been taking the cat not to a regular vet but the emergency one (more $$$). I am waiting for a response back- if they are willing to drive I might refere them to one of my vets-one may be willing to forego his fee-I'll see how the pans out.
