Really people, I mean come on, how rude can some people be!?!

Yesterday I was extremely allergy ridden (coughing, sneezing, stuffed up). I went to work, because I called in a sick day on Friday (to get hubby to the doctor about his shoulder). Everyone thought I was contagious. No one would talk to me unless the absolutely had to. I felt like a leper. My supervisor came to my desk and he talked to me with a piece of paper held in front of his nose and mouth. I mean come on - I told him it was allergies and not contagious! If you don't want me breathing on you that bably at least have the courteousy to call me and talk to me on the phone so I don't have to see you put up a barrier!

I feel like sneezing right on him today, but I'm not that rude!

I know what you mean. When I have allergy issues, people at work will tell me I should go home, call in sick, whatever. They look at me like I am lying when I say it is just allergies! To them, if you're sneezing and coughing, you must be sick. They are always worried they will catch something. Yet, most of them will come to work when they actually are sick!

Just keep doing what you do and let them look stupid. Someday they will understand.

Allergies here this year are extremely bad, so I don't sound much different than anyone else I work with..so we all just act as normal..
I am sorry that the people at your job doesn't realize that there is a difference between allergies and a cold or flu....Hang in there..

I agree, maybe its a part of getting older, but this allergy season is really effecting me this year. I'm not one to be considered an allergy ridden person, either.

Do you take any meds for your allergies? I know some people can't, but just curious.

I can take the occasional Benedryl, but as I am breastfeeding, I can't take many drugs. I will admit - I was a right royal mess yesterday. Today it is like I am a different person.

I can see how you were offended, but I can see the other side too. I wouldn't talk to you through a piece of paper though. That IS rude.

Since you called in sick Friday, maybe people believed you had a virus. I may have thought so. I know people who really thought their allergies were acting up, but they were coming down with a cold.
If I get sick and bring it home and my DH gets it, he can't even take cold medicine, so he's miserable. My dad has emphysemia, so if he gets sick its very risky to his health. I can't blame people for erring on the safe side.

That's right! Well...just lick everything before you give it to someone.

I guess that is rude... Unfortunately, I would do the same thing as your co-workers, since I have a compromised immune system. I'd steer clear just in case you were wrong about the allergies, or had an allergy and a cold.

Hope you get relief soon.

I totally understand! One of my coworkers is a total ....well you know what
. Saturday morning I was VERY VERY sick. I have IBS, Gastroparesis, GERD, a hiatial hernia, and PCOS.....sometimes it seems like ALL of my symptoms want to act up at once. I threw up 3 times on the way to work and was very ill to my stomach. When i got to work i ran into the ladies room and was sick yet again. When i cleaned up and came back out i told the secretary (the one who's OH SO NICE! (NOT!
) That i was ill and would not be able to stay at work so i was going home. She then gave me a nasty look and said "good, i don't want it!" What a total heifer!!!! I wasn't contagious eithor- just had my GI issues acting up! I wanted to punch her
