We just lost another kitten, we started out with five and now we are down to 3, the one that just died wasn't the one I was expecting to die. If you saw my other thread, you know which one I'm talking about.

I just came upstairs to put the little runt back after getting him to eat some. I looked in the closet and one of them was just laying there not moving like they usually are, when I touched him he was lifeless..... This is the second time this has happened, they were fine, they were walking, and didn't seem to be showing any signs of sickness, and then I come back half hour later and then they aren't fine...... does anyone know what would cause this? When they were first born the mother would lay on top of them, many times I had to get her off them. Maybe that is what happening?

I really hope I can help the runt out and have him survive, my fiance is really upset over the loss of this one, he was the one we were going to keep from the bunch.

It sounds like there is some kind of illness. I would suggest you really try to find a way to get the remaining ones to the vet, or you may end up losing them all.

I think its the mother..... her breasts( if thats what you call them ) are huge and I can't get any milk from them.... I'm heading to the store now to get a syringe and hopefully I can get them to eat from that.

Oh dear - so sorry to hear about the 2 kittens who have passed away..RIP dear little ones.

With regards to the others - good idea to syringe feed them for now. With regards to mum...this is ringing 'mastitis' alarm bells...i'd recommend taking mum (and the kittens) to the vet for a check in the morning.

Keep us updated.

awww, I am so sorry for your loss. There is nothing worse than finding them like that. Sometimes they just don't make it. It breaks your heart. Sounds like the runt is fighting, tho! Sometimes those runts surprise you.

I'm so sorry. It is so hard to lose the little babies. I use to worry about the mom squishing them too (by accident). Does anyone know if that happens?

Its possible but not probable. But the mom may have the beginnings of mastitus which can cause infection - she needs to get to the vet right away - that may be why the kits are having problems - if she's got infection and the kittens nurse, they pick up the infection!

we lost the runt last night, he really fought, but he was just to weak. We are down to 2 kittens and they seem to be doing good. We have been syringe feeding them.

As for the mother, her teats don't feel hot, but they are swollen, and I can't get a drop from them. I just got done feeding the kittens, and I'm letting the mother clean them up now, and then back in their little box they go so I can put them in my room and keep them from the mother so they can't feed. I don't have the money to take her to the vet, I'm going to see if I can borrow some money or something so they all survive.
