Ok so I was in the Dollar Store this afternoon buying all my cleaning stuff.. Mr. Clean Erasers, Wetjet solution and pads, Mean Green...etc.....This older lady comes up and says "Oh no. You dont wanna use THAT stuff" and pulls the WetJet solution out of my cart and puts it on the shelf. I just look at her
and say "Why?" Oh it killed my dog" and goes on to tell me the whole rumor about it. How they did an autopsy on her 15yr old Dachsund and found out it was from the Swiffer after doing tests. Even went as so far as to tell me that the vet (which happens to be my vet) came to her house and brought the dog with her (my vet doesn't make house calls) and put the dog to sleep in her own home. At this point Im really just wanting to leave. Not that Im not sympathetic, I just know she's full of BS.

She walks away (finally!) and I grab my Swiffer refil and head for the check out.
Sure enough, she walks up behind me and grabs it out of my cart and snapped "I TOLD YOU NOT TO USE IT! IT WILL KILL ANIMALS!"
I just looked at the cashier blankly,
and proceeded to check out.
I really didn't know what to think other then had she not been well into her 80's, I woulda given her a piece of my mind!

But give her credit for being an animal lover, misguided though she be. Some people hear what they want to hear, rather than what is actually said.

And, for what its worth, my vet doesn't make routinely make housecalls either. But there are times he has done it in special circumstances. She may have been a longstanding client.

Did she just assume you have animals?

Sounds like she heard the rumor, wanted to warn you, and thought talking like it was her own experience would get the point across better... She was out of line touching your stuff.

A very old lady once wedged herself in line right in front of me. I didn't say anything, either, I figured I had more time than her to wait.

It's not "just a rumor" for me. I cannot use Swiffer Wet Jet as my Twitch has a very nasty reaction to it. Vomiting, diarrhea, doesn't eat or drink. But.....she is a rare case. I also cannot use Febreze & cannot spray aerosol cans around her.

As for that lady....she was likely trying to be helpful. My grandma is like that. If you don't listen...maybe she should yell so you hear her better.

Just to clarify, snopes said that it having antifreeze in it causing the deaths was false, like most cleaning supplies, swiffer in wet form can be harmful to pets - but it dries quick (although I am not sure about all the cleaner not having ANY residue myself so go over the floor with water after to be sure)

I would be very unimpressed at someone telling me it like that though and would probably buy it to prove a point

How rude is that! I don't care how old someone is- you do not touch/ pick up/anything to things in another person's cart- that is just down right rude! Apparently someone failed finishing school!

Finishing school teaches you how to behave like a lady.

I really hope you are joking because i find that offensive. I can be more of a lady and an adult than half the twits i come across every day. And these are people who DID finish school.

No need to be offended - it's not "school" as such, it's like an extra-curricular thing that rich people would send their daughters to to teach them to be "proper". It's called "Finishing School", not saying that you finished school...

They did things like walk around with books on their heads to learn to walk properly, learn how to eat and use the right cutlery, and drink tea like a lady and silly things like that.

If you watch the movie "A League of Their Own", all the baseball girls are sent to a finishing school type thing to learn how to be proper ladies.

You can read more about it here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finishing_school

Edit: There's not many around any more, but here's what's covered at this one in Switzerland that the aristocracy and royals go to: IVP Higher Certificate in Finishing course : One to three term programme of French or English (including preparation for official language exams such as the Alliance Française, Cambridge, TOEFL), International Etiquette, Protocol, Savoir-vivre, Table Service, Cooking, Floral Art & Table Decoration, Home Management. Age: 16 (+), average age: 20.

And it costs about $70,000 for the course for less than a year
