Okay, I posted here because it has to do with medicine, but it offsets spraying and the testosterone based instincts so....It may have to be moved to behavior.. sorry mods!

Does anyone know of the effects and/or has anyone used this method? Apparently it's something that some breeders are doing for male cats to inhibit the desire to spray. We're considering it for our male Bengal who is on the borderline.. he doesn't normally but he has a tendency to get really excited about things and he did get all worked up about a fresh catnip plant the other day and spray it, or at least mark it (that's debatable). We did some research and in theory the effects last for a while and it suppresses the instinct to spray (I guess because it changes the testosterone levels?). So i'm wondering if this would affect aggression levels as well, and in that case, does anyone know if it would work for a domestic spayed female? She seems to be okay with female kittens coming in, and male kittens, but she ends up having aggression issues with male adults.. and this started after she was spayed. I'm thinking that it has something to do with estrogen levels potentially?

my mom had a cat (neutered male) that got that a few times for spraying issues. i remember gizmo wouldn't spray for a long time after that. i don't really think he should have gotten that treatment since he only sprayed outside anyway.

i have a sprayer (raven). he's not bad now, but when he started--the trigger for him is outdoor cats--i asked my vet about the hormone treatment. they did not even carry/offer it and told me they haven't offered that for years because of the side effects. i never asked what they were.
i just assumed since they didn't even offer it, it was probably bad. that was in 2003/2004. my current vet is way more up to date than my old clinic, so i didn't even ask them (when we first moved here we had some spraying, but raven's been good for the last year or so: no roaming cats=happy raven).
