Over the river and through the woods...
My best friend, Sherrie, called me today to let me know she has breast cancer. Today is her birthday...she just turned 38. She found out last week, had the tests done and the cancer is "invasive and aggressive". She is having surgery on Tuesday and they are planning a partial mascotomy rather than a lumpothapy (I know I spelled them wrong but they are taking half of the breast instead of just the lump because they aren't really sure how deep it goes). She will be off work for 6 weeks for radiation every day. They don't know if she will have to go through chemo yet...depends on what they find when they operate.

She has such a great sense of humor though. When the doctor was talking about removing half of her breast and cosmetic surgery will be an option in the future she said "Can you see my breasts now? Do you really think it will make a difference??" (She calls her breasts mosquito bites as it is!)

I am just so worried about her. She has already had a hystromectopy because she was getting cervical cancer. She is only 38! And she has a 12 yr old son. Her husband is being very supportive.

I balked when my doctor suggested a mammogram after my last physical. I thought I was too young for that. But, you better believe I will have one done now!

Any thoughts or prayers you can send her way will be greatly appreciated.

That is awful news. But she sounds like she has a good attitude and that can help a lot. I have a friend who had breast cancer twenty years ago and is now fully recovered.

Oh no!! How awful for your friend and her family. It really will help that she has a positive attitude. They say that helps alot with cancer patients.

I am sending many prayers that she will be free of cancer one day soon

Under the cats, mostly.
Oh I'm so sorry!

She sounds like a really strong and special woman if she can still have her sense of humour in tact at this time!

Many many many prayers for her and her family - I really hope her surgery goes well.

I had a friend who's mother had a mastectomy for breast cancer. She now has a prosthetic breast (which apparently leads for some very good practical jokes and party tricks!) Last time she got chatted up, she asked the guy if he wanted to feel her boobs. He said "OH yeah!!" - she pulled the prosthesis out of her shirt and handed it to him. Left him speechless!!
