Any crafty cat women?

I decided last night to start a new little project. I bought a small book shaped wooden jewellery box for $3, its just made of craft wood. A bottle of pva glue, and a packet of hand made paper, the stuff with all the thick fibres in them. There is one each of white, cream, grey, black and a white with a victorian pattern on it. I decided to paper mache over the actual box, instead of what youd do over a balloon where you dont keep whats underneath. Ive done the bottom half black, the top half cream/white. I'm thinking of lining the inside with fabric when i hunt some down, so ill just hot glue it in. The victorian paper i will decoupage over the top. I tore up all the paper into little cubes of about 1inx1in and used a flat paint brush to paste them on, and because they have fibres unlike normal paper, it looks sort of like fabric and blends together better.

Anyway, i thought i'd tell you because im excited about it actually working! Ill take pics when im finished. (not sure when lol) i have to wait for it to dry, i started last night really late, and did more a couple of hours ago.

Any of you ladies do interesting crafts that you dont hear about very often? Apart from knitting/crotcheting etc

Cool! I love that paper you're talking about; I first bought it for scrapbooking, but have since found other uses for it. I jump obsessively from craft to craft, and you can see some of them here: http://www.artsyfartsy.madwonderland.net/

I'd love to see pictures of it! I wish I had the time to do some of that stuff. I just can't seem to find it anywhere - time that is.

If you haven't put the fabric on the inside yet I suggest you use the same glue you use for the paper or just a plain white glue. You'd use a piece of cardboard or cardstock to spread the glue very thinly. This keeps the fabric from getting bulges and bumps in it like hot glue can cause. Then you can use a very thin line of hot glue for any folds.

A few months ago I noticed we had a random accumulation of various boxes around the house, with different types of cardboard. Out of curiosity I cut and made my own small boxes from the cardboard, layered it for strength, then covered the boxes with cloth. I have a lot of unused fabric

I used plain white glue that I already had.

I suddenly have the urge to make a few more, too bad it's a huge mess.

I've made a few boxes over the years. The last one I did I painted and glued down ribbon around it. One box I bought had a tin center to the lid, so I got a carved wood figure (don't quite know how to describe it....like a small version of those things you'd see on the ceiling in older houses, sometimes with a chandelier hanging from it's center) and I painted that and glued it in the middle. I love making keepsake boxes like that. I usually put small mirrors inside them.

For all my bridesmaids, I made small jewelry boxes. I painted each of their boxes their favorite color and then put a crackle finish on it. Then I painted on and wiped off some of either silver or gold paint like a glaze is used. Inside they each got a bracelet my cousin made. (She has a business making handmade jewelry.)

I've never tried anything like that.I mainly sew/quilt, knit and crotchet.

I love doing crafts!

I really enjoy cross stitch, but that's quite a common craft. As far as uncommon ones, I have done and enjoy the following:

1. Rug Hooking;
2. Rug Braiding;
3. Ribbon Embroidery. Not to be confused with regular embroidery.

Ribbon embroidery is done with fine silk ribbons. It's not a cheap craft because you need to buy good quality silk ribbons, but it's very enjoyable and rewarding. I haven't done it in some years, but I used to make decorated jewel boxes and appliques for clothing etc. Here are some examples of ribbon embroidery:

The following site has silk ribbon embroidery kits for sale. I've never used a kit. I learned from borrowing books at the library and buying my supplies a-la-carte and picking up old boxes at flea markets, or making my own out of heavy cardboard.

I'm one of those people that does a bit of this and a bit of that, depending on what kind of mood I'm in. I'm highly creative, which can be an irritation from time to time - I can feel like creating something and not know how to vent it. I do anything and everything from painting (landscapes, portraits, pet portraits and on porcelain), sketching and drawing, knitting, cross-stitch (I design my own), woodwork (mostly at work because that's where my tools are) and songwriting. I've also dabbled in quilling and decoupage, filligree jewellery, patchworking, salt dough, clay..... You name it, I'm sure I've tried it at some point.

I was going to say that!

I rent booth space at a local antiques/craft mall, and do all kinds of crafts. I love making primitive dolls. My favorites are anything Halloween. I love working with wood--at the moment I'm into making garden signs on stakes. My big seller at the moment is one that reads "Grow, Dammit!" with a large wooden sunflower accent.
Got to start working on summer/patriotic stuff now-- Uncle Sam dolls, Lady Liberty dolls and wooden figures, that kind of thing.

Any crafty cat women?
