Okay, my doctor told me I could try avocados for getting my good chlolesterol up and I bought one- now what do I do with it?
The only thing I know to do with it is make guacamole (did I spell that right?
).

Any other suggestions?

They are good sliced on sandwiches and cubed into salads. I can eat then plain, myself. I LOVE them.

I used to like to just cut them up, peel off the skin, and put a little salt (not much at all) on them. They are good cubed in salads too.

Now I can't eat them anymore...I've become allergic...they make my throat itch like crazy!!! I do miss them!

Mmmmm my favourite avocado snack is a prawn and avocado sandwich

But generally you can get rid of spreads and use avocado instead for sandwiches

And here's a link of how to cut an avocado - http://www.elise.com/recipes/archive...an_avocado.php

Generally, once I cut it in half, I just cut out what I need, then put the 2 halves back together, and wrap it in cling wrap and put it back in the fridge.

I like to slice them and put them on sandwiches and in tacos and things.

Between hummus and avocado, I don't use those icky processed calorie-dense spreads any more.

Cut one in 1/2 the long way. Give it a twist to split the halves. One side will have a round pit in it. Take a knife and give the pit a soft whack with the sharp edge of the blade so that the blade sticks in it. Then while holding the avacado give the knife a twist and the pit will come out.

Scoop the avacado from the skin using a spoon by going around the sides. Slice the avacado up and serve it on a salad or just have it plain. Keep it from turning brown by sprinkling it with a bit of lemon juice.

I love avacados. Fattening as all heck though.

A low calorie way to get your good cholesterol up is eating oatmeal

I just halve them, take out the pit, put in my favourite salad dressing and eat it with a spoon.

Other times I will cut them up and add them to a salad.

They are also good when you fill the cavity with shrimp salad.

They are delicious!

I love them these ways as well! Also a burger topping with cheddar cheese, tuna melt- tuna on bread of choice or muffin, avocado, topped with melted cheese (pop it in the toaster oven). Chicken Acapulco - sauted chicken breast topped with crab meat, avocado, and hollandaise sauce......

For brunch...

Toasted English Muffin, spread generously with salsa, then slices of avocado, poached egg, and a little more salsa.

Avocado goes great with lots of things, one of my favorites is to slice them and have them with crackers, brie cheese and a tiny bit of salsa. They are also great cubed and served in gazpacho soup or chili.

I like to take bowtie pasta, throw in chopped tomatoes (fresh, about 3-4, however many you like), mix in with garlic-infused olive oil, a lemon squeezed in, cilantro and an avocado or two cubed and mixed in. So yummers.

Almonds are great for raising good cholestoral too.

Oh my- now I am getting hungry for that avocado!
I do eat a whole grain oatmeal cereal every morning (it still counts even if it has marshmallows in it, right? LOL
), and I had forgotten about the almonds- we have a half filled jar of raw ones on the kitchen counter I got a handful of just today (next to the candy jar...
).

Thanks everybody! These are great
! I may have to get more than just one on my next shopping trip!
