ok... it's official. Spring cleaning is dangerous!
Also I am stupid!

I was just cleaning the stove and when I was done, I put the elements back in and turned them on to make sure they were well connected. I turned them off again and continued cleaning. I was reaching for something and without thinking put my hand directly on one of these elements.

it's so painful!!!

I have nice marks on my hand in the shape of a stove element and the pain is sometimes so bad I feel like I'm gonna throw up.

and yet, what's the first thing I do? post about it here.

I have a cold wet cloth I keep on my hand. Other than that I don't think there's much I can do.

Funny thing is, that's the same hand I sliced yesterday while cutting a tomato. Oh wait... that's not really funny.

IMO, if the pain's that bad, you need to go to either the emergency room or urgent care and have it looked at.

I agree! Burns are nothing to mess with, especially if it hurts that bad. You could have gotten a second degree burn which could get infected. I would go and get it check out.

Under the cats, mostly.
Ouch hun! Ouch! I did that - on the bottom of an inndustrial deep fat fryer. Don't mess with burns, get to ER and have it checked just to be on the safe side. You know what? You're gunna have some really interesting scars one day!

well, I was just one the phone with the health line and they said that from my description, I don't need to see a doctor. But she told me what to look out for.

The pain is starting to go away. I think it made me feel nauxious at first because I was so hungry too.

I'll just keep a wet facecloth on it for a while then cover it with a clean bandage.

I know this will sound weird, Wormy, but slather it with spicy mustard. The capsacin in the mustard will draw out the pain.

Never put oil or butter on a burn.

I've heard that too, but I've never tried it. I heard yellow mustard works best, but all mustard has that ingredient in it I guess. To minimize the scarring, use lots of vitamin E cream, or cocoa butter.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I don't have any mustard. I don't like mustard so I don't keep any around.

It's much better now. There's no blistering left and it doesn't hurt much anymore. Still got cool lines on my hand though.

Ouch! Keep ice cold water on it! That will prevent further cooking.

Also get some Milk of Magnesia. It's an over the counter laxative which is also great for soothing superficial burns. Gentley smooth it over the area without rubbing it in. Let it dry. Repeat as often as needed. It feels even better if you keep the Milk of Magnesia in the fridge.

You will probably get some blisters. Do not break them. Keep the hand dry and covered with sterile gauze.

The initial application of ice water and the continued use of Milk of Magnesia will help a great deal.
