Well I think I need to take a break from here. Ive failed as a pet owner. This may not sit well with most of you but I need to rant.

I STILL have Samantha my adopted cat from hell. I am not getting rid of her but she is going outdoors, and I mean today. I just cant deal with it anymore. She sh*ts everywhere, and even after months with her I still cant even catch her to clip her nails, let alone pet her. I wont have an animal that refuses to interact with humans.

I have my kitchen cabinets taped up, because even the baby locks wont keep her from getting in. She will eat my Ramen Noodles (yes NOODLES) and dig in my trash even though there is no food in it. She is scratching at my couches, and they are new! I know this is something so DUMB to complain about but when Ceci was alone she never ONCE scratched at my couch, heck she barely slept on them. Now I have to vaccum twice daily because she gets up on my couches and scratches them.

Last night really took the cake. I ate half of a twix before bed, and wrapped the rest in its package inside of a plastic bag. Well he little devil came in at 3 am and stole ran off with the bag, wanting to eat the chocolate. Luckily I heard the exact moment when she took it and I was able to chase her down and take the candy.

Last and most definately NOT least she is scratching my son! I dont know what the heck her problem is, she likes to sleep in my sons bed and most mornings when he wakes up he is scratched, either on his arms or on his face.

She is dirty, poops everywhere, and when she does decide to poop in the box she wont even cover up and I end up with a nasty smell in my house despite 3x's a day of litter box cleaning.

I am almost 5 months pregnant and I need to get the 'cat room' ready to be 'babys room' and she refuses to use the box anywhere else in the house.

I wish I never wouldve taken her in!

Stop for a second. Is she going to survive outside? I know you're at you're wits end, but seriously. If she cannot possibly survive outside, isn't UTD on shots, & fixed, there must be another solution.

IMO, Samantha isn't meant to be in you're home. Sounds to me like it's all behavioral relating to you're home. Ophelia isn't meant to be with me. It's not what you did, it is just the cat/family dynamic.

Are you 100% sure there is no place she can go that will not euthanize her?

Why not take the cat to a humane society instead of just branding her outdoors! I understand your frustration but maybe she is reacting to your stress! If she is scratching your son that is not a good situation of course and maybe she would be suited better in a different home! I think you should give her that option before you send her outdoors! I feel bad for her, maybe she feels neglected and maybe that is just her personality. You have to do what is best for your family but please dont just kick her to the curb.... Give others the opportunity to work with her or adopt her if she is even classified as adoptable!

I believe the issue with the humane society idea is that she will likely be euthanized or none will take her. The foster home she came from is out of the question, as well....if I am remembering right. I have to go back & read the previous behavior posts so that I can rememeber right!

Was just a suggestion! She could put a free ad on craigslist for adoption but thats an effy because some people are not trustworthy owners that reply!

It sounds to me like she is not happy in your home. Perhaps she would do better in a different environment. It would be better than just tossing her outside....

My kitten was feral when I adopted her. She took alot of work, patience, and time to get her to be the loving bugger she is today... I will look over the threads! Wow I read them... What a dilema! My kitten is semi-feral and her main issue is being seriously skiddish! It took me over two months to bring her around and she is only attached to me and the other cat... She is not fond of strangers and quivers with fear when they are around her! Other than that she is an excellent cat... Always uses her box etc! I've had few problems with her but you cannot win them all! The foster mom (adoption agency) was worried in the beginning I may have to return her because she was kept outdoors up until a couple weeks of me adopting her... She was 6 months when I got her... Now she is 8! I feel bad for Samantha and I feel bad for Juliecat and her tough decision ahead of her!

This may not be worth much, but Samantha (as another poster said) is semi-feral, she was an outdoor cat before I got her, and already a young adult. I think this may be why she never learned to use the box properly.

Also, she is fixed, UTD on shots, healthy as can be. She would have another cat to be around, as my mom rescued a kitten from a lady who is outdoors (he is fixed as well)

I'm so sorry you've having such a tough time. No doubt this hasn't been an easy decision for you. It sounds like Samantha is really, really smart. If you can figure out a way to get her to Georgia, USA I'll give it a shot with her. Likely, she'll team up with Friday and they'll commence with his plan for world domination but hey, I've dealt with that before too! Friday's a devious thing. Luckily, he loves me 100% so I can forgive an awful lot.

Is there much she has to protect herself from predator-wise down there? I doubt you have the coyotes like we do. Sounds like she might be wily enough to overcome a lot.

Ive spoken to her 'foster mom' but the thing is her foster mom never really fostered her. She rescued Samantha from a high kill shelter and stayed with her for a little more than a week while Sam recuperated from her spay. She tells me that Samantha was a loving cat (when she was outdoors) and that she attributed her sudden shyness to beiing indoors in a strange place.

The woman who rescued her cannot take her in because of her litter box problems, she has many other cats and doesnt want them to pick up any bad habits. We were working with a Siamese rescue who ships cats to the USA but Ana (foster mom) and I decided we would not lie to the agency and let them know about her problem. They also refused to take her in.

In all honesty I think she will do much better outside in the enviroment she has known all her life, rather than in a cage at a shelter where kill rates can reach up to 80-89%. I CANT take her to a shelter knowing she will be PTS, I just cant!

As for 'predators' the closest thing would be a stray dog, and they are smart enough to know you dont mess with kitties. I was quite worried about our Golden who has a VERY high prey drive but she has been a big love with the rescued kitten, and as long as they are introduced she will leave Samantha alone.

It HASNT been easy which is why I have put up with so much stress. I have never given up on any animal and I dont plan on just tossing her to someone else because i cant deal with her.

I dont see that happening any time soon, the problem is she seems to hate being indoors. I tell my husband she seems like a caged lion.

But if this WERE to happen I honestly say i'd have to let her back in, I could never turn my back on her.

One quick question. I read back through some of the old posts that were listed on this thread. Forgive me if I missed this somewhere but I'm new to Samantha's problem, what do you feed her? It's strange that the poo should smell SO bad. If there's some dietary problem that could provoke some of the defecating outside of the box. Also, have you tried using a litter box with sand or dirt (again, forgive me if I missed this somewhere) as a semi-feral the litter may throw her off. She might like something more like what she's used to from outside.

Funny story:
My cat Hemmy was a stray who I found many years ago. He's an indoor cat but I take all of my crew out in the backyard for supervised trips. Hemmy's favorite thing to do is to pee outside in the dirt. He gets a look of sheer bliss on his face. He used to practically uproot a potted tree I had indoors to pee (and poop) in the dirt. Needless to say, I finally just got rid of the tree.

Forgive me if I missed it, but when you started her out, did you start her in a cage? It may sound cruel, but in a cage is generally how people relitter train animals that have stoped using the box. Also, this makes it easier to try and get her used to human contact.

I'm going to play devil's advocate....but what about medicating her as well? I hate medicating my Ophelia, but honest to God, she is seems a million times happier now. She is on Buspar, an anti-anxiety medicine....& she has calmed greatly.

Hey! I didn't hear the news! I'm sorry you had to resort to meds but I'm so glad to hear that peace is reigning in your house again. I know you were worried about her.
