I only got 9/16 but even the ones I "guessed" to be art, I thought they were crap, lol. Guess I'm just not artistic and open!

Well, I don't even accept the basic premise of the quiz, which is that just because some "authority" says it's art (or not art), I'm supposed to ignore my own perception. And if a plaster cast of a victim from the eruption of Pompeii is "crap," somebody's priorities are 'way off.

I don't care who says something is art. If it's crap, it's crap.
I agree that the Michael Jackson thing is hideous looking. A Brillo box is art just because it was designed by Andy Warhol? Puh-lease!

Well, I'm an artist, and I got 9 out of 12 (I've been brainwashed that all crap is supposed to be considered art, if someone bothered to call it that
)

I think that that was the point
. The only criteria was
For the purposes of this quiz, "art" is something that has been exhibited as such by an artist.

You know... I love art, and I consider myself to be at least vaguely cultured for what the "coastal snobs" would expect of a middle-class girl from Ohio...

But I just don't get some modern art. I mean, if you aren't sure if it's art or not, it's not. At the DAI there was this thing, that was basically just an orange stripe on the floor, and I stepped on it because I thought it was just a stripe on the floor. Oh wait. That's what it is.

I have seen more recent stuff that is really cool and new and different. But some of it I just look at it and think... "Is this an accident? Did a kindergarten class spill paint?". IMO if something is art just because of who made it... it isn't art.

Like a thing I saw on display, it had its own entire room, and it was basically a security camera pointed at the sky, and you watched the little tv screen where the feed came in. The only reason that was art was because someone famous did it.

Anyway, I got an 8/16 on the quiz.

I got 10 of 16, and I am an artist, but I'm not going to pick something that looks like crap to me, especially if its not antiques!

I got 11. Had a feeling the cheap and tacky Michael Jackson THING would be art but couldn`t bring myself to click on it!

And I am a regular visitor to the art gallery.

My type of artist is Kees Bruin. His work is so beautiful.

I think that's sort of the point of some modern art. It's more to make you intellectually consider the definition of art, and to challenge your standards, rather than the piece itself. If an orange stripe on the floor provokes thought and internal dialogue within yourself (and obviously a lasting impression) is it not more effective and intellectually stimulating than a representational painting, demonstrating exceptional technical skills, that you only glance at for 2 seconds?

That being said, I completely agree with you. I generally consider stuff art if it involves some sort of skill and technique to create (along with a few other criteria, of course
). Frankly I don't see an orange stripe on the floor as art. I've taken many an art class, and most modern art is still beyond me.

Art means something, not everything IS art.

Honey, I work at a company with one of the largest modern art collections out side of MOMA, some of it is just plain weird. For instance, the Jar of Rocks, or the Pile of Smelly Shoes, and my personal favorite, Lawn Clippings in a Clear Plastic Suite Case.
I got an 11/16....
