Life on other planets...

I think it's pretty egotistical of us to think that we are the only intelligent life in the universe. Exactly what you said - just look at the night sky and think that every star has the possibility of having planets. And even if only a small percentage of those planets are the right distance from their respective sun to support life, that still leaves thousands of possibilities out there.

I doubt life elsewhere would look like us, though there may be similarities.

No clue if we've been visited. If so, they are probably just laughing at us.

and perhaps they are already amongst us but we dont know it

I think there is life on other planets. There's no doubt in my mind.

I don't know if they'd look like us. Like Heidi said, probably some are similar, some might look just like us, and some might look totally alien to us. Also, perhaps on other Planets Felines and Canines are the ruling species, and humanoids are the pets. Wouldn't that be interesting?

I would think if they're advanced, they could have easily visited this planet. They could be amongst us right now. Who knows.

No way we're alone - Heidi what you said sums up my feelings exactly.

In a way, though, I hope there's no other habitable planets we can get to. It's enough that we're on the way to destroying our own, without spreading our malignance across the universe as well.

Unless, of course, we actually learn from our mistakes. But history has shown us that we haven't acquired that skill just yet

Gemlady, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only alien here. My secret is known on a couple aquaria sites along with my leader but I have been walking this earth for 500 years and I can say with some degree of certainty that humanity hasn't advanced all that far and I don't see much hope for the species.

When I mentioned becoming Emperor in less than 28 years in another thread I wasn't talking about the US or Earth I was referring to "galactically". Don't worry, I'll be fair and harsh when I need to be (I love conquest) but the humans of this planet should consider themselves warned. If they don't straighten up by the time I take the throne then I'll turn the planet into slag.

Anyway, to answer the questions:
1. Do you think we are alone in this universe?
Absolutely not! The universe to big and it would too arrogant for us to think that we are the only "intelligent" life in the universe. I believe that there are species out there much more advanced than we are and who consider us too "primitive" to interact with. I also like to think that there also more planets that are inhabited by humans that have varying degrees of technology- some more advanced, some behind us.

2. If we do find life will it look like us?
We have already found colonies of bacteria on planets in our own solar system but I believe that as our own technology continues to advance and humans from Earth begin to colonize and reach further out into the universe that we will encounter other species of life in various forms- humanoid and other wise. Like I said above I do believe that we aren't the planet of humans in the universe.

3. Do you think they have visited us?
I think we have been and I think that we have had visitors for 1000's of years. The reason that we have not had any significant contact that prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that we have been visited is that the aliens believe that as a species we aren't ready for it. Even though we are a curious species we do have a tendency to fear what we don't know or what is different.

There are lots of interesting stories throughout history, even suggestions of such in the bible. If you've ever watched The History Channel they love putting on show after show about UFOs
I find Sumerian mythology and the Nasca lines to be rather interesting.

I have seen weird things in the sky before, whether they were extraterrestrial in nature or the government testing something, I can't say. All I know is that I have never seen normal known aircraft shaped like that or moving in such odd directions at that speed.

I certainly believe there is other life on many other planets - the universe is such a vast place - it would be arrogant to say we are the only living creatures

I don't really have any thoughts about what they might look like - but I'd love to see them

I wish they would come to Earth PDQ and shake us all up - we need some major intervention that would sort the worlds problems out and I think something like this would unite us all

I think they have visited us, and I sometimes think about some of the 'strange' experiences people have that we categories under 'ghost, spirits etc' and think its aliens checking us out

Anyway like I said, I wish they'd come and interact with us !

I do think it's highly unlikely we're alone in the Universe. I'm not so sure about anyone visiting us though.

Sure is a big old lonely place for it to be just us. (I think the Dad in "Contact" said something like that.)

No idea about how they'd look, I think we have enough variety on Earth to know that anything is possible.

And I think the Mayan and Egyptian cultures are proof that they have walked among us. I just hope they didn't get disgusted and leave us to destroy ourselves.

I have a co-worker who swears that he is a visitor from another planet here to observe us. It is actually really fascinating to talk to him - he actually almost has me convinced that he is an alien or that he has waaaaaaaay too much spare time because everything he says is very well thought out and "realistic"

We are not alone in the universe, however what the company we have consists of, I don't know. I would however, love to be one of the "1st contact" people on a friendly (not invasion) meeting.

Actually - you won't like him - he hates cats!!! (I know, how could anyone). He says the are a tastey snack on the planet he comes from. I am working on him to get him to like cats - tough job!

Hey, tell him on MY planet they eat aliens from .... (insert whatever planet it is he's from) and the only way to save yourself is to worship cats as the divine beings they are!

If I remember correctly there is a lot of debate regarding who and how the statues on Easter Island were made. Some feel that it was the work of aliens who were eventually rescued.

Well, if Third Rock By The Sun is anything to go by, aliens are alive and well and one of them is an orthopaedic surgeon. One of the surgeons here is about as nutty as they come - brilliant, probably the most brilliant hand surgeon in Australia - but completely mad. I don't like him at all.

Neet what you said about the Mayans and Egyptians - it does make you wonder. We watched a show on mummification and embalming the other night (that science fascinates me) and it's just another example of how ancient Egyptians were waaaaaaaay ahead of anything we could imagine. The pyramids, the tombs, the engineering, the medicine, the technology - simply breathtaking and definitely mindboggling. I would not be surprised if it were discovered they were an alien race, sent to show us the path to enlightenment, but we, being mere humans, just stuffed it up anyway

Oh - and crop circles (don't roll your eyes anyone). They are a definite sign IMO. The first crop circles in Wiltshire appeared on my cousin Tim's farm, and they are strange, otherworldly things. They truly are. Don't get me started - I'm a true convert as far as crop circles are concerned. There's been too much weird stuff we know (mostly from personal experience) has happened there to leave any doubt in my mind.

That makes me think of the one movie, K-PAX.

Some people even speculate that Atlantis myth plays into other cultures, that there was a earlier advance civilization that traveled to different areas influencing other cultures.
Sumerian and Egyptian myths play more into the "could there have been aliens", especially Sumerian.

Some may be real but it is very easy for people to copy cat them. The circles that show some radioactivity within the formation are awfully hard to dismiss as pranksters though.

I agree. I think our planet was visited by aliens in the distant past, and some of us are decended from them. That might explain why some of us have really unique abilities that others don't.

As for the orignal question yes I believe there is life out there somewhere.

As for the crop circles....no I do not believe that aliens are here making those. The first ones made were faked. Some years after they first appeared the guys who made them went on t.v. and said they made them. Yet people still believe aliens made them.

are we really so conceited as to think any of the many other life forms in the universe give two hoots about us? that they'd look just like us? that they would experiment on us? or care what we did with our planet?

Yes, I do believe there is life on other planets. However I do not think they are any more intelligent about space travel than us.

The universe is vast and not every planet is like earth. Therefore, I don't think they would look like us. We're basically made of carbon and require Oxygen (overall) to breathe. I think our tour of Mars is too early. They're looking for life that is carbon-based rahter than expanding their minds. We may have found life existing or existed on Mars, but did not realise it.

As I said in one, no. I don't think that they are any more intelligent then us concerning space travel. If they have visited us, then they need to stop picking places in the middle of no where and picking up the crazy people.

No, I don't think we're alone. The universe is huge, and certainly there are other planets out there that can support life. Not like the lifeforms on earth, but, some type of life (i.e., a planet full of veggies).

I doubt it! Humans look the way we do because of how we've evolved here on this world, in these conditions.

Nope. If they did, they'd either blow up the entire planet due to our species being so messed up, or, they'd use up our resources and move on. I doubt they'd drop in for a hi-how-are-ya kind of visit, because we'd try to kill them or conquer them or find their planet and take whatever we can from it.
