I searched through the forums and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Mama had one of her back toes declawed last friday (she had snapped the nail in half) and everything seems to be going fine except that the one toe is swollen. I didn't notice the swelling before so I'm inclined to think that this is a new development. What is the usual swelling period after a declaw procedure?

I don't think there's supposed to be any swelling. I'd call a vet ASAP, because that doesn't sound good!

Did the vet bandage the foot up? The one and only cat that was declawed had bandages round his feet for a few days for the swelling.

I'd call your vet and ask what you should do or if you should worry.

Poor kitty - how did the accident happen?

They had me take the bandage off after 24 hours. I was a little surprised too but I think they had me take it off since it was only one toe. It looks great other than the swelling. There's no pussing or bleeding.

I have NO idea how she did it. The vet said that the break was further up into her nail than the usual extension of a toe. So he said she was probably running or something and got snagged. I only found it because there were blood spots on the couch and carpet.
